Gizmodo: Bring Back the Classic Start Menu in Windows 10

Friday, January 29, 2016 by Island Dog | Discussion: WinCustomize News

Some people who have upgraded to Windows 10 still prefer a more classic start menu, and Gizmodo takes a look at how you can bring that back using Start10 from Stardock.

"Start10 comes with a commendable number of options for you to play around with: there are actually three different looks to choose from (classic Windows, new Windows, and a fusion of both), and you can tweak icon sizes and colors as well as the appearance of the Start menu as a whole. There are even configuration options for your taskbar too."

(classic Windows, new Windows, and a fusion of both),

Only slightly misleading if you also run WindowBlinds, in which case all 3 choices look the same.

Start10 is a good program, use it all the time!!!

You'd have to!!!  The default Start Menu from Microsoft is awful at best, what with those horrible tiles that belong only on a Windows Phone and no place else.

And like it or not, I am going to have to deal with Windows 10 on Monday when Shaunna picks up her new Asus laptop.  She wants me to set it up and disable all the telemetry stuff for her.... and one of the first proggies to go on it will be Start10, cos like me, she hates those gaudy looking tiles.  I dunno what possessed MS to put them there, but it was a wrong move for many who want/prefer the traditional start menu.

You can remove all the tiles from the Start Menu without installing an alternative -- and then you can shrink it down to recover some of the desk real estate.

Yes you can Mark. However it still doesn't look near as nice as it does using Start10. For those that still may want to use the reqular win 10 menu it's only two fast clicks away. Very easy to change back and fourth if one wants to.

Yeah, I knew that reducing/eliminating start menu tiles is possible, but one is still stuck with the default rubbish MS put out, and that isn't nice at all.  So yes, Start10 is a must, not that I intend using Win 10 very much at all.   I will likely have to sort issues out for various friends and family members with Win 10 machines, but that'll pretty much be the extent of it for me.
