MS Extends W10 Free Security Patches Through October 2027
That's good news if they don't work the updates

Arthur Kaye has published this good news for many on gHacks (external link). Originally this program was set to end Oct. 12, 2026. MS made the change with no big announcement.
I recommend reading the linked article as it describes how to join the program. Those who joined the original program don't have to do anything additional to continue through 10/2027.

I had seen this on other sites, and it is great news for a lot of Windows 10 users. The price of new computers is going up due to memory and RAM shortages which makes the upgrade to Windows 11 unfeasible for those on older computers. I have personally been running Windows 11 for a couple of years now, and with Stardock software it's quite tolerable. Once they finish the "
" initiative, it should be a lot better.

Agreed. The RAM situation is due to AI soaking up 70% of memory chips this year alone. And no end in sight. Frankly, it's intolerable if only because people will pay as there's little choice when RAM goes bad or when a new machine is necessary.

My wife's computer (DELL XPS8900 from 2015) recently died. We replaced it with a GEEKOM A7-MAX mini-PC. It included an AMD R9-7940HS processor with 16GB RAM and 1TB SSD with Windows 11 Pro for $587.

All my machines running 7 AND 10 also are running 0patch.
I simply refuse to dump perfectly good machines into landfill at the whim of Redmond's concept of forced obsolescence.
It actually should be illegal.

0 patch is ideal for you as you're maintaining security on W7 as well as W10. Also, there's a good deal to be said for being independent of MS. The "free" solution is for the folks who can't afford other solutions.

I "had to" reboot my Win7 machine yesterday, Kaspersky had an update and popped up the reboot request, and I was having an issue with MS Teams ... so what the heck...
Checked my 'uptime' as it tends to be long .... turns out the last time I'd shut down was when I was away overnight last... and that was about a week before Christmas, 2025.
Uptime was 180-something days.
It's really nice when your OS is no longer supported and you don't have to cope with bullshit MS Updates messing with your system.

There's certainly plenty to be said for that view. If it comes down to a choice between an antivirus and 0Patch, I'd advise 0Patch, independence from MS and careful browsing.

Yes, thanks. Will take a while to get it up & running, as it happens (away from home much of the summer at our "cooler" place). Looking forward to it but I know there will be some frustration as my wife gets acclimated to W11 (will be her rig).

My tech support guy of 25 years, a hardware/OS wizard, was favorably impressed, too. Considered it a smokin' deal given the cost of RAM & SSD's these days.
