Don't forget you can colorize your skins

Wednesday, January 16, 2008 by Draginol | Discussion: OS Customization

One of the best and most underused features of WindowBlinds 6 is the colorizing feature.

With WindowBlinds, you can color certain parts of the skin but not others in order to create multiple new styles that you can save for later.

Here are two screenshots to show what I mean:

Above is Elegance but with a more golden hue to it. Note that the close button is still red. It's not just a brute force hue shift.

Here is Aero Executive changed to be grassy.

Little tricky to get the hang of but once you have it down it really is invaluable.

You mean you can colorize a skin and save it? As an additional skin?

Yep, it saves it as a sub for selected skin. When select colours tab and also trans and blur, click drop down where says Change settings for all skins, create new, create new again, name sub, create, close, then set to colour or trans and blur you want.

I made a topic about this...but colorizing doesn't work very well when that tiny preview doesn't contain any colored bits of the skin with which to work with when trying to recolor it.  Would be nice if the taskbar preview showed all the states of the taskbar buttons, so at least when a skin (like WTM) only has certain bits colored, taskbar buttons are a likely source of colorized sections. Also wish the advanced coloring was more user friendly (ctrl + click on a color on the preview, shift slider, done).

Good points Steph.. Rome wasn't built in a day, keep pushing and maybe in future releases we will see it flourish into a wonderful acompanying feature, for right now, works well and very handy. Good job on the wiki and promotion.

I've been hoping for a little more detailed "how to" than what Brad did originally.

I have never been able to change only one item. Each time I try I end up with all the colors changing. There's gotta be something I'm missing, but since I've gone thru the instructions at least ten times I think maybe I misunderstand one of the steps.

I know what you mean Lantec, I could never get it working either (hence my "for dummies" suggestion).

Does anyone have a link to the tutorial on recoloring a skin in WB6?

I was able to get it to work correctly once, but can't remember how it was done vis a vis HSL coloring.

Thanks Zubaz! I didn't know that little thingy (#4) was an actual button so I never clicked it. Looked like a graphics bug on my end or something. All good now. Cheers, f
