I have talked about Jing before, and it's one of my favorite free apps for capturing screenshots and video of your desktop. TechSmith released an updated version for Windows users yesterday.
Updates include:
- Capture selection should start more quickly
- History should be open more quickly
- Memory 'leaks' cleaned up
- Over all memory usage decreased
- Automatic selection of 'sub windows' restored

Just started using this yesterday when I saw it mentioned in another thread.

So does this take the place of using print screen and paint and imageshack or used with it them or something totally different?

It leaves a lightweight program running on your desktop. You click the capture button when you want to take a screenshot or video and it puts lines on your screen that you can drag to where you want them so you wont have to crop the shot afterwards. Then it will give you the option of marking (i.e. putting arrows, circling, highlighting) anything you want. Then when you hit the upload button it will automatically upload them to whatever account you have it setup to work with and then give you the address of your upload so you can share it.

For fullsize screenshots that I'm uploading to the screenshot gallery I would still use Print Screen and Photoshop.
But for anything else that I just want to show something small to someone or for posting here in the forums it's a nice quick alternative that saves you the steps of having to open Paint or any other program and saves you from needing to login to a site like photobucket and upload it then get the address you need.

It sits in the systray.
You hotkey or tell it to capture and then select the area with the mouse.
Tell it to record and when complete it uploads to it's own site (I think) and copies the URL to you clipboard to paste wherever.

Depending on how you have it set. When you first install and run it look at the top center of your screen for a little yellow circle. I believe you can turn that on or off.
It gives you a few choices of where you want to send the resulting pictures or videos.

I'm not sure this is the right place this but I'll give it a try. Can anyone point me in the right direction for a software program so I can make thumb nails and other tools to adjust pictures, etc. Free would make it just right;) Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

Screencast.com is fantastic. As many of you might have noticed, that is my provider of choice for screencasts as it as excellent video quality.

One little thing I have noticed with Jing and wonder if I am the only one experiencing it.
If I have Jing running and I play a video in VLC the video plays sluggishly. But if I close Jing and play the video it runs fine even if I restart Jing once the video is going.

I thought this would be a great tool to utilise over on the Desktop Sidebar Forums ..
Unfortunately , for some wierd reason I cannot install this prog ...
Does the screenshot help ?
