The PC of the future - The new desktop

This PC is using Windows 10.  But not just Windows 10 on its own.  It's been upgraded a bit with Object Desktop. That's what Object Desktop does.  A lot of the things in Windows we see today first showed up in Object Desktop.  A few examples include transparencies, shadows, gadgets, ZIP files as folders, GUI skinning, etc.  There is a natural progression to the operating system.

On this screenshot I have Groupy, CursorFX, Fences, Start10 and a new app that hasn't been announced yet.

The PC of the future series is going to explore where we think the desktop is going. This PC has 64 CPU cores and 128 logical processors.  It has 128 GB of memory and an extremely fast GPU.  So what are we going to do with this hardware? That’s what this series will explore.

Edit: Additional screenshots below.

I think most people here would prefer pretty over function.

Not my cup of tea, I (personally) prefer the classic start menu, don't care about tiles, or columns, all I see is Start10, and maybe some others, but no Windowblinds, am I to assume, it's (Windowblind) on the way out, if so, I'll just dump Windows altogether, and stick with my Mac, at least it's better to look at for not being skinned?

I disagree ALMonty, I think most people here would actually prefer a great design that also has great functionality.

Tom, I think Al meant IF they had to lose one to get the other.

I agree Tom,  but, if the majority of people are for the dull Window 10 look, then I’m out , as I stated, I’ll dump Widows, and buy me an iMac.

I think you should look closer.
Ok, I see the WindowBlinds icon on the taskbar of the second screenshot.  But I don't recognize the WB if you have one loaded, and it looks kinda square, and plain.

Got to love when you edit the orignial post (ouch!) and add an additional screenshot (even full size this time!) + 2 scrennies to prove what? I have not uttered one word about functionality. All I said is that the first screenshot you posted looks bad (L-O-O-K-S) coming from the CEO of a large company selling customization products & productivity tools for PCs.

Difference of opinion is no problem to me. It's how it's handled that matters.

I was thinking the second screenshot wasn't there when I made my comment.

I edited the original to add more screenshots.  I didn't change the one that was there.   They're not there to prove anything other than providing additional examples.

I don't like the default Windows 10 look.  And while *my* personal taste may not be in line with yours, it is irrelevant to the topic at hand since the thrust of the screenshot was to show the functionality of the apps I mentioned.

And I still think your effort at doing just that in that particular screenshot, sucks.

Out.

I don't mind you having a difference of opinion. Do you?
You obviously don't since my ranking went down to 1 and you behave like a 10 year old. Shame on you.

I can't stand the default Win10 look.  So I'm using Start10, WindowBlinds, Fences, and CursorFX.  Looks a lot better and, for me, is more functional.  Just my two cents.

Computing is pointless without aspiring to BOTH.

If it's as clumsy as Windows 10 is it'll do your head in.

If it's plum-ugly you'll scratch your eyes out rather than put up with it.

Either way...computing won't happen....

Quoting Chasbo,

The PC of the future only needs fences and groupy evidently.

CursorFX, DeskScapes, Start10, Fences, Groupy and 1 unannounced app.

What about Windowblinds? You haven't mentioned it in your comment to my comment. Will Windowblinds be a part of The PC of the future?

Exactly what is this mystery app? Cmon' Brad spill the beans Baby!

We are working on WindowBlinds 11.  But *I* don't use WindowBlinds anymore.  It's too hard to make a complete skin these days and my tastes are more towards more subtle skins.
