Keyboard for the poweruser

Friday, December 17, 2004 by Thomas Thomassen | Discussion: PC Hardware

Fireworks got a very nifty keyboard for you all you powerusers out there. It got no physical keys, just a big pad that you can use to type, control the mousecursor or do gestures on.

It plugs into the USB port and can (on most systems) be used side by side with your existing keyboard and mouse of you aren't ready to get rid of it yet. Very portable as it can be folded up.

You can get it in QWERTY and DVORAK layout as well as a few international layouts.

The price is currently $339.00, but it's the ultimate keyboard of keyboards.

This item is defiantly going on my next item to get for my computer. A bit annoying that I invested in a Logitech Wireless Keyboard and Mouse last year when I bought my computer.

WOW! . . . looks interesting . . . I can't say that I would ever think about spending that kind of money on a keyboard . . . I'm not against quality, comfort, and features but that just seems like a chunk of change . . . of course, one might say the same thing about the money that I spend to customize my computer and support Stardock! . . . I guess it's all what you want to spend your money on (not like Stardock is a lot of money . . . but maybe my Zegna suits are )

It'd be interesting to see if the price will sink in time.
It's a stiff price, but the amount of time I sit and swap between mouse and keyboard when I do graphics or programming is quite alot. Fortunatly I haven't been bothered with RSI despite the amount I use the computer.
I looked through the forum of fingerworks to see if there was many people that wasn't satisfied with it. Couldn't find any. That's a positive sign.
If I ever get hold of one I'll do a detailed review of it.

OMG! Ive been looking at the site for this for a while now, looking at all of the gestures and it looks worth the money! shame I cant afford it though

Anyways, I just love the concept, rest your palm heels on the keyboard and slide them upwards to activate game mode... wow!

I would do anything for one of these

And what's also great about this thing is that it connect through the USB port, so any machine and OS that support keyboard and moust through the USB can use it instantly without installing drivers. And since all settings are saved on the keyboard you can just fold it up and plug it into basicly any computer these days.

I've actually been sitting and simulating the motions on my desk to get an impression of how it'd be. I really like the zoom gesture. I can see my self workign in Studio Max drawing, typing some coordinates or scripts, then zoom and rotate around the model... and with a minimum strain or effort to my hands. I've never been so excited by a electronic gadget before, it's allmost scary.
