I think everyone is entitled to their own version of the spiderman bootskin, so many different variations of this are possible and all of them good.
I wouldn't call it bad luck, I would just call it good taste, apparently others share your tastes (myself included). Plus I don't have alot of luck (or originality) when it comes to the progress bars, I like your spider progress bar - it works good! Keep on skinning!
