As someone at the MessageBoard said, "Because of the dithering needed to render something in just 16 colours, a thumbnail version which samples this tends to exhibit very ugly artifacts making an already compromised image look even worse".
A gaussian blur of 0.3-0.5 it is not an advertising, just helping for a decent preview of the authors hard work.
For a BootSkin it is not enough to convert the many colors to only 16, it needs a correction bit by bit at some parts of the 16 colors Bootskin and it is not easy at all, that's why I call it hard work and please don't forget that it is free sharing.

When anyone looks at the bootskin section as a whole and one skin preview appears so 'superior' to others, when you find out it ias a false impression motives are questioned.
My bootskins are 'free sharing' too, but their previews are accurate. I think any higher-res impressions should be left for the full colour Bootskin proggy when it's released....)
