since you're taking requests

- green is always nice, red might be better and I'm a big fan of black & white images,
you rec'd some decent download activity on this one, I'm sure you'll see the same activity on the same bootskin rendered in different colors, it's a wicked image - I can't believe photoshop alone can do this, what kind of software do you use?

Again, awesome work! 5 stars from me on this! (or 10, still not sure how this rating system works)

Hello unclerob ,you of all people would know best techniques for a bootskin...biggest prob I have with PS is if 000(true black)isnt one of your 16 colors,it dosnt want to save as 4bit.Another is windows boot dosnt like prog bars bigger than normal. It will do it but the results are hit and miss.

What I have done (take into account I'm no expert) that I have had problems exporting/saving full color images that I have created in photoshop or fireworks down to 16 colors so I just use those apps for the image creation itself in full color and save the file as a 24 bit bitmap which retains all of it's colors. Cavan pointed me to an app called IrFanView and I have used it since without problems. I open up the full color image that I've originally created in photoshop or fireworks in Irfanview and have it decrease the color depth of the image to 16 colors (4bit). It does a great job (and quickly too I might add) once that's done, I save it and that's my bootskin bkgrnd image (which I also then use to create my progress bar).

But as you pointed out, when working with highly detailed images, reducing to 16 colors can sometimes result in a washed out image, changing the color hue/saturation of an existing project so that it's a different color from it's original presents it's own problems as well but I learn as much from my failures as I do my successes (if not more).

Now if only I could find a job doing this kind of graphics work full time, instead of the wee hours of the evening after the kids are put to bed - now that would be nice!

I have been away from WindowBlinds for a while now ... After seeing some of Brainiac's art work, I kicked WindowBlinds in the butt to get her going so I could enjoy the awesome creations by Brainiac. Thank you Brainiac for the obvious hard work you have dedicated to OD. Too bad there only five stars, I guess it wouldn't matter because your work is superior and would get the highest rating available anyway.
