This is a very nice bootskin - the image by R.Peter Clark is awesome.
My only problem is that you used the full color image of this bootskin as the preview. You should be using the 16 color bootskin image as the preview - to be fair to the users downloading the bootskin, they may think it's as glossy as your preview shows.

Fair enough. I used the full-color image as a nod to Peter; I don't think the 16-color image does his work enough justice (even though I think I did a nice job downsampling it)
. It's meant to be a "teaser" to get folks to check out his other stuff.
Does anyone else think the preview image ought to show the 16-color image instead of the full-color image?

Jeff, not to be a stickler but I don't think it's something you can put up for a vote.
The bootskin preview image is just that, a preview of the actual 16 color bootskin of how it will look during use - not a preview of the full color wallpaper the image was created from. We have a wallpaper gallery on the site where an image can be displayed in it's full size & full color.
I mention this only because I was caught doing the exact same thing last year when I first started uploading bootskins to the site and the reason I was given by the moderator is what I've mentioned above. Take a look at the other bootskins listed on this site, they are 16 color 640x480 actual previews of the bootskin.
For what it's worth, you did a good job of converting it to 16 colors.
Take my words as advice only, ultimately you will decide what you want to do.
