HUD Desktop has nothing to do with DesktopX. This is stand alone theme created with Visual Basic .Net.
Please, go here: "C:\Users\USER NAME\AppData\Local\SD Gadgets\HUD Desktop". If the folder exists just delete it. HUD Desktop.exe should be placed anywhere other than this folder!
Try to run HUD Desktop by clicking on .exe. Do you see something in the Task Manager? Does the process HUD Desktop.exe starts? Has the data folder (C:\Users\USER NAME\AppData\Local\SD Gadgets\HUD Desktop) appeared in the File Explorer?
If it still doesn't work, see Comment # 5.

Sorry to also weigh in with a 'doesn't work' - it prompts with UAC, but then...nothing. Doesn't appear in task-manager process list either. I'm curious to see all the things this does

Here is my Windows x64 version info + ESET Internet Security 13.2.16.0 + UAC enabled + 3 runs by clicking .exe + 3 rebuts:
All works fine... I think something is blocking this program and preventing it from working. It may be Firewall or any other Antivirus software. I have no more ideas because I am not an expert in this area...
Try to run Event Viewer. Maybe it will show you more details on what's going on...

The problem on my rig was anti virus so I got that taken care of and now I can run it but I use dual monitors. That's why I asked about wallpaper. Without the wallpaper I don't know what to run on the other screen. Surely you have a base wallpaper. Why not upload for us users with 2 screens? I won't be using without something for my other monitor. What say you Vad?

Hmm.... The problem is that HUD Desktop doesn't not use any wallpapers. This is the wallpaper itself. In other words, the background image generates by code each time when you run the program or change the parent monitor or resize the working area. And this image can only be on a single monitor... I even had to hack the program to create ScreenShot for WB skin...
So I see only one realistic way for you. Just find any futuristic dark blue desktop background in Google (I have seen a lot of suitable images there) and use it as a wallpaper for the second monitor.
Hi Jim,
It will not work if you try to launch it from DesktopX. HUD Desktop is not a DX theme! If not, look at the Comment#5. Possible reasons: missing DLL, Firewall or Antivirus. In any other cases it should work.

The more you play with this, the cooler it gets.

I followed what you said and realized an interesting situation. When I looked with Task Manager, the program gets suspended shortly after it starts. I guess it's most likely disabled by antivirus or some other security shield.

Windows 10 no longer has desktop gadgets, microsoft did away with it in 10. What program could we use to get gadgets so that I can use your gadgets?
Comment #33 Wednesday, August 26, 2020 2:39 PM
1 minute in Google with query: "run sidebar gadgets on windows 10" and here's the result: link It seems to me that it's very simple...
By the way, I found one strange thing with HUD Desktop. The program compiled on Windows 7 may not work on Windows 10 and vice versa. I cannot explain it or even understand this... The same project and the same compiler...
The only reason I can imagine is the incompatibility of Windows Media Player (wmp.dll) in Win 7 and Win 10. I'm not sure if I should waste time looking for a fix to run the program on a dead OS...
Anyway, the version of the program I uploaded here was created on Windows 10 computer. Now draw your conclusions...

Update.........your chronos desktop works perfectly on my PC, just this HUD one don't! If that is any help to you at all. I was not trying to put your work down nor add any drama, just did not understand why this one wont work? Your work is and always was awesome I will grant you that........I meant no harm or disrespect here! Anyway, Thank you for your talent

Okay! Let's try to understand why...
I need know:
- Windows Version (mine is Win 10 x64 Version 2004 Build 19041.450);
- Antivirus (mine is ESET Internet Security 13.2.18.0. By the way, it does not prevent me to run and use HUD Desktop every day without any exclusions and special adjustments. So my program is not detected a virus. );
- Windows Media Player (mine is 12.0.19041.423) and wmp.dll (run wmplayer.exe --> switch to Library Mode --> right click anywhere on the top area to open context menu --> Help --> About Windows Media Player. Then click "Technical Support Information" at the bottom left of dialog and look at your wmp.dll version. mine is 12.0.19041.329) ;
- Name of your Video Adapter;
- Installed .Net Framework version (optional);
- And finally... It would be great if you could check for the presence of the "dlls" listed in Comment # 5 on your computer. Especially pdh.dll in System32 folder. it's very important file.
Perhaps we can find a way to make it work on your computer...

Okay VAD-M,
1) Windows Version- Windows 10x64 version: 10.0.17763 Build:17763
2) Anti Virus- McAfee Lifesafe-version:16.0
3) Windows Media Player version:12.0.18362.900 wmp.dll wmplayer 12.0.18362449
4) Video Adapter- Intel (r) UHD Graphics 630 3D
5)dlls- user32.dll SHCore.dll gdi32.dll uxtheme.dll shell32.dll kernel32.dll IPHLPAP.DLL netapi32.dll dnsapi.dll ntdll.dll advapi32.dll pdh.dll msvcrt.dll winmm.dll wmp.dll
when I tried installing it,it does nothing, and in "task manager" the reason for failure says: "The process was terminated due to an unhandled exception". Maybe that will help too! I hope
Another thing, I made a wallpaper to go with your hud theme since I could not get the hud desktop to work. It is pretty awesome, if you should want to see it, or maybe post it for people to download if they want too, just let me know and I will send it to you! Thanks for taking the time to try and help me.......it is greatly appreciated!

Thank you very much!
I am not a great specialist in operating systems and do not understand all the intricacies of their work. However, I see three possible reasons that can affect the correct launch of the program:
1. Your antivirus might be blocking it. Try to add an exclusion for HUD Desktop in McAfee preferences. This helped some.
2. Windows Media Player version incompatibility. This is the worst case, because you will not be able to use the program until you upgrade Windows from 1809 to 2004...
3. HUD Desktop can not detect you Video Adapter (it tested with AMD and NVIDIA only). Please, download this program: OpenHardwareMonitor and try to run it. It would be great if it will work and show GPU Temperature. HUD Desktop uses the similar hardware monitoring algorithm so we have a good chance to solve the problem.
The other things are OK.
Ask me, please, have you tried to run Chronos after the last major update on 07/30/2020? Or did you mean an earlier version?
If you tried the updated version, does the Media Player work? And what did you see on the System Monitor display. Did Chronos detect your Video Adapter? If YES and YES, the chances of solving the problem increases many times over!
About the wallpaper. Why not upload it to the WC Wallpaper Gallery? I know at least one person (Chasbo) who will be very, very happy. He asked me for a wallpaper, but I couldn't give him what I don’t have (the “wallpaper” for the HUD Desktop is created with code without using Photoshop). So please, upload it here!

Ok Vad_M,
I upgraded my windows, so that took care of all that, I now have windows 10 2004. I downloaded the open hardware monitor and it worked but, it was only showing CPU's. The media player came up but I did not have any music to try it out, and no chronos only showed CPU not GPU! I shut off my anti virus and tried reinstalling Hud Desktop but, it only comes to the part where it asks your permission then quits. I tried shutting off UAC and it still did the same thing. I guess I have to suffer and not get your awesome module . Hopefully someday you will miraculously come up with a fix LOL......Thanks so much Vad for all your help and all your time....much appreciated! Oh I did upload the wallpaper and thank you for your permission your an awesome guy!

WHERE? YES! FOUND IT! VERY, VERY COOL! YOU ROCK!
This is the reason. I'm sad to say this, but currently there is no way to fix it. I asked you to check the latest OpenHardwareMonitor in the hopes that they added support for Intel Graphics drivers. But alas... I cannot do this myself, because there are no computers with Intel Video Adapters around me. Even if I find the necessary API, how to write and test the code? Hmmm...
Anyway, I'll go to search in the Google and developer forums right now. Perhaps I'll be lucky and the solution will be found. Otherwise I'll try to turn off monitoring for non AMD/NVIDIA GPUs. The program should start but it will not be able to work at full strength. I'm sorry...
I'll upload an update as soon as it's ready.

I have DesktopX. But when I run the other exe, they open but when it comes to your exe, nothing happens. I browsed my computer and installed somewhere named Local \ SD Gadgets but I really couldn't run it. Or I just can't.
Edit:I tried to run it without DesktopX. After clicking on the HUD Desktop.exe, nothing happens again. Like it doesn't work. My account's UAC system is down but it still didn't work.
