Very impressive object. Nice attention to detail. It takes forever on my machine to load up though. If I shrink the radar image it loses clarity.
On my desktop its just too big, but that isn't the fault of the object, its my tiny screen. Excellent job!

Thanks everyone, I'm glad you like it. Ghos, yes this object pushes DX pretty hard. There's nothing wrong with the radar image when in the smaller size it's just a smaller resolution image with less detail.

Ah, except for the ground radar image, if that's the one you meant. It has to be resized to fit the smaller screen. All the other images are dual-resolution.

It's quite a feat to make a weather object that stands above the many others, but you have done it!
You even added the little things like the way the detail window slides out and back smoothly, etc...

i found a small problem that i'm hoping you can fix. after i initially run it and choose my city and then config the radar the extended forcast stops working. the semi transparent window that shows the 5 day forcast is totally empty and the surrounding frame that allows you to minimize it again is missing. i'm using DX v2.2 w/the latest nvidia drivers. any ideas on what could be causing it?

Mannlister: either the background has moved in front of everything else, or you've lost some objects. Make a list of the objects that are loaded (in object navigator) when you first load lookingglass. When your problem recurs, see if any are missing. If not, right click on FrameGlass and change its z-order to bottom. Also try double-clicking on the background to make sure you haven't set a background image. If that doesn't cause the frame to re-appear, double click the current conditions or the moon. The other thing you have to understand is that there is absolutely no communication between the satellite/radar object and the forecaster, other than the the satellite being made visible or not. So configuring the satellite can NOT have any effect whatsoever on the forecaster unless there is some kind of DX glitch. I too am using DX 2.2 and Nvidia, and have done the procedure you describe literally hundreds of times, and have never seen anything remotely like you describe, nor is there any way programatically for it to occur as a result of configuring the radar object.

Mannlister: also, the configuration of the objects is saved, so you should have to configure it once and only once, unless you like to keep changing locations. You make it sound like you have to do this every time you start up. If that is so, then DX's persistant storage is not working for you, and you may need to delete your theme or reinstall DX. From your comments, it obviously did not exhibit this problem the first time you used it, so that makes me suspect some corruption.

Carpe: Thank you very much! It seemed like except for the graphic design (some of which are admittedly phenomenal) most of the weather objects were pretty much the same. My graphic talents are by no means comparable with some of the people out there, like Tiggz for one, but I wanted to make something that would show people what was possible. The capability is there to go a lot further than people have gone before we just need to push the envelope. Thats what the features in LookingGlass are all about bringing new things to the table. Most of those features are easy to see, but what people won't get unless they take apart the code is the concept of the Layered Weather Effects and local intelligence. Those are totally new concepts for weather objects.

As the objects filesize is less than 20 MB, I guess, it must be the images, that it downloads from the web, that make it so memory intensive.

There may be issues with the way DX allocates memory. I have seen DX memory usage, when running this object, vary widely from one machine to another. Yours is at the high end.

Joe, keep your eye on https://www.wincustomize.com/skins.asp?authorid=47869 for versions with the animated moon but without the satellite. The Ultra-Lite forecaster, which is already available, has no satellite but the moon is not animated. Wincustomize is having upload issues, so a couple of versions that you're interested in are stuck in the queue.

Will: Thanx for the quick reply. I'm not sure what's causing it. I have a few things on my desktop that use transparency and they overlapped w/LookingGlass so I'm wondering if that had anything to do w/it. I'm letting it run again to see if it happens again and then will try the troubleshooting tips you suggested such as checking the z-order.
Also, I hate to keep making requests but this is nearly perfect so I'll ask anyway. How about a little link within the 5 day extended or better yet by clickign on one of the extended days it opens your browser and takes you to your local weather.com extended forecast page? I like having the link in there so I can click and get more details if I want them. LOL
