An excellent news ticker. Works and looks great! Thanks.

Nice work.

Just a thought instead of setting speed with a slider why not try a combobox? If you play with the speed you'll notice that certain increments don't scroll smoothly; so, this would give more options but, within the limitations you set in the script.

spil doing widgets?! If this is anywhere near as great as your cursors and spilstuff icon package, it'll be amazing! Gotta DL it immediately. Thanks!

Tis'll live on my DT for a long time. Only one thing I find: If this is minimized, my proc. use is 65%-75%. When maximized and tape running, proc. use jumps to 100%. I can run it min. and max it to read, no prob. I'm also running Yahoo! Widgets' Ticker-Tape, showing WC feeds, so maybe there's a conflict or...? Will run this anyways, as it's just that good. My proc. is P4 1.4, RAM is 1500 MB RAMBUS. System is 5-6 yrs. old, homebuilt, so maybe that's it. Will kick it all about and blow out the dust kitties...

no problems with it here, however, it is a bit on the large side ... how about making the scroll bar less wide please ? 1/2 or 2/3 the size of what it is just now would be better ...

Hi seldomseen,
Thanks for the comments...
I run about 15 widgets simultaneously, that I have coded myself, perhaps 5 or 6 of which will use some CPU cycles when 'idle', as it were. My normal CPU usage is 6-10% if the news scroller is hidden and perhaps 10-20% when it is maximised.
Half the reason I wrote this is because I used to run a similar Konfabulator (Yahoo) widget, but the CPU was always running at 75%+... I don't really think there can be a conflict there.
Given that my processor is 3.2gH that might explain some difference in the usage but I wouldn't have thought it would jump to 100%.

Solved the scroll speed problem - that was just me being obtuse, and added an option to change the scroll bar width....
Will upload the new version shortly

Mmm...
Just noticed the time on my last comment...
Perhaps I should get to bed at something approaching a more civilised hour

I really like this. However unlike some of the previous commentators I would quite like a wider version. Even at its longest this only stretches about 2/3 of the way across my widescreen monitor. Also, with a longer bar it would be possible to fit the story description into one line, which would be nice as this would let me place the bar lower on the screen.

One other thing, when I double click on a news story it opens that story in explorer even though my firefox has and all available defaults (and an rss reader). Anyone know why this is and if I can change it?
