Interestingly enough, when running from behind the proxies at work, widget shows internet as not connected.

you may want to change the movement setting for the objects embedded in this widget. I have the default set to normal (movable) and this widget let's me move the words all around (and potentially lose them)
I like the idea of having word of the day on the desktop though. Really nice.

Suggestions: ability to change font color. Ability to set transparency
On a light background the font is hard for me to read. Either one of the above implementations would fix that.
Add hyperlink from copyright to wordsmith.org.
Add speaker icon to call pronunciation wav.
I am guessing (since I haven't looked at the script) that you are parsing the RSS feed. But . . . the format of the wav file seems pretty clear (today's word pronunciation URL: http://www.wordsmith.org/words/chrestomathy.wav).
