Personally, I prefer my docks on the left side of my screen, but it shouldn't be too hard to make a right sided dock. I'll include that in a future update.
As for the docked weather, the background should be changing with the weather conditions. There are sunny, rainy, snowy, cloudy, thunderstorm and partly cloudy backgrounds if I remember correctly. I just loaded up the widget myself and it seems to be working correctly, so I'm not really sure what to fix. If anyone knows what could be wrong, please let me know.
I don't use this sidebar myself so it hasn't been rigorously tested. Personally I find the Vista sidebar a little intrusive . However, thanks for you suggestions, and I'll take them into account when I continue to work on this thing.

The picture display 'widget' seems to display only one picture . hpw about making it select a folder & go through that ?
When you double click on the weather widget - how about using the same images instead of another widget ? keep it consistent
The 'My Computer' shortcut opens 'My Documents'
Long place names are trailing over the edges of the weather widget when its 'docked'
good work othewise. I hate the vista sidebar but a dx sidebar is much better - yours is coming along just fine.

to see what I mean on an improvement to the expanded weather widget when you click on it , look at https://www.wincustomize.com/Skins.aspx?LibID=34&view=1&sortby=4&sortdir=DESC&p=1&advanced=0&searchtxt=live%20weather (Live Weather II) using a more rectangular widget with the original weather graphics of the sidebar would look good.

No idea how to do a slideshow in the picture display, but I'll add one if I figure out how.
I was planning to make the expanded weather look more like the "official" Vista expanded weather gadget, but just didn't have the time to make the pictures and format the object. I'll make one for my next update (which might be in a while at this point).
The My Computer shortcut actually opens the Windows Explorer, which I find is easier to navigate than the "My Computer" folder, so I'll probably just leave that as it is. I doubt many people use those shortcuts anyway. In my personal version, I replace them with shortcuts to some of my personal shortcuts. If I could find a way to allow the user to set their own shortcuts, I would, but I don't know how.
I know about the overflow of the place names. I can't really think of any way to fix it, since weather.com does not abbreviate country names in their weather data. Maybe in the update I'll separate the city and country into two lines, although I get some funky alignment errors the last time I tried that.
Thanks again for the comments, I'll work on the sidebar the next time I get a chance to do so.

if you have time someday, could you do the weather, clock & RSS widgets as stand alone widgets too ?
thanks

I'm planning to do a minor tweak to the weather object first by using the ISO 3166 country abbreviations which should hopefully fix some of the overflow issues. I'll probably spend an hour on that tonight (there are a lot of countries).
I'll probably not submit the RSS reader since its really just a very minor reskin of dan.wright's RSSRead Widget. Nevertheless, I'll go ahead and make a standalone widget of that and send you a copy of it via email.

I don't know if this is a tweak you'd be willing to take on or not. If the inside widgets could remember their settings and not open their windows when I start up the sidebar everything would be absolutely perfect (well that and the widgets remembering location on the sidebar when I shut down). As it is I have to close something like five or six windows every time I fire up the sidebar or power up my computer.
Thanks much!

If you don't want to wait, you can add a couple of lines to the script yourself if you have the builder.
First, right click on the background bar, called "grad", and go to "edit script". Below line 13, add the following lines:
DesktopX.Object("Calendar").Visible = False
DesktopX.Object("clockchooserback").Visible = False
DesktopX.Object("weather_image").Visible = False
DesktopX.Object("RSSBackLg").Visible = False
DesktopX.Object("RSSsummback").Visible = False
DesktopX.Object("RSS_List").Visible = False
Go to the File menu and select save and apply.
Edit: I've tried this and there still seems to be one window open. I don't know what script is making it visible. If I find it I'll let you know.
Edit: I figured out what was wrong, I'll upload a new version in a couple of days.

1. Close DesktopX and the sidebar.
2. Open the start menu and select Run
3. Type regedit into the box that pops up and press enter.
4. In the Window that pops up, navigate to the
My Computer->HKEY_CURRENT_USER->Software->Stardock->DesktopX->Widget folder.
5. In the Widget folder, there should be a folder called PicFramer. Delete this folder.
6. Start up the sidebar and the picture frame settings should now be reset.
Let me know if you have any problems. Thanks for letting me know about the bug. I should have it fixed in the next release.

vistasidebar.exe ... seems to be for the left side of the screen if you click the + for fadeing the skin ... make it for the right?
the 'docked' weather widget .. seems not to display the correct background for weather conditions ? or is it meant to be like that ? just one background for all ?
