is your question based on the preview image or did you actually download the icon and go from that? b/c the icon on my desktop has smooth edges. the program i use for the preview images is not a vector program but the program used to create with is vector ... let me know

I had downloaded this player icon yesterday and it did look somewhat better on my desktop. Unfortunately I have a light gray wall as a backdrop right now, so the difference didn't show up that much. However I did just download one of your darker folder icons and it does indeed look much better against the light background.
Is there a reason you can't use the same program that you make your icons with to make your previews with? It would be to your benefit to have the preview looking as clear as the icon itself. If you check out mormegils tutorials, he has info on how to export the icons to keep them looking their best after export. I use the same technique to export the screenshot, and it seems to work pretty good.
