Can anyone tell me what you do with these poofs?

if you name the poof "poof.png" and add it to your OD folder (replacing the original, it will become the poof. And if you don't even know what the poof does, when you drag an item off your dock, it will "poof" or disappear in a poof of smoke, or whatever.
