I really just wanted a quick icon to launch the prog, and I had never made an icon for anything before, I used Paint Shop Pro 7 for it by the way (I'm fluent in Photoshop too, it's just that I wrk faster on quick things with paint shop heh.)
also I did as you said just promote a really cool open source prog that still in beta, and now that MORE people on here know about it there will hopefully be some more icons available for it now!

This probably got just a few stars because you used the template and a gif. It doesn't mean it looks bad. If you want to do more, I'm posting a link for Photoshop tutorials that is great for beginners to experts. (Sorry, I don't know what graphics program you use, but there are tutorials for all of them around). Link
The spheres are a great place to start, because they have so many tutorials on them and you get to mess with a variety of effects and styles you can apply to other stuff.
