Although that is a fair comment, so far there has been intense media speculation that he is a Republican and that he would/should run for the 2012 nomination either as President or VP. Plus the Rockefeller tradition has been predominatly centered around the Republicans. It is for those reasons is why I have listed him as a Republican.
Even if you disagree, you can still have a military style Political Machine off between him and Gen. Wesley Clark

Somehow, I think this may not be entirely accurate. He has some liberal and centrist views and voted in New Hampshire for a friend who was in the Rockefeller tradition. He may even be a Democrat..his wife works for Obama's Consumer Financial Protection Board to help veteran's families. Also, he was best friends with McChrystal, who aside for his big mouth, is a Democrat.
