o.k.,,,,did that, clicked the install button and a page popped up with a bunch of code. Totally useless to me. Forget it. It's not worth all the hassel. Too many other skins here at WC that are alot easier to use and apply.

Are you using Internet Explorer to install Windows VU meter? I have had 1 report that it fails. Both Firefox and Chrome install it correctly using the button at the bottom of this page http://windowsvumeter.sourceforge.net/
I'm sorry you are having problems, both the skin and the VU Meter are one click installs and changing one word of a skin to match your media player of choice does not usually represent a challenge.
The extra step involved is to get the third party VU Meter running, which is out of my hands while Rainmater does not have the capability to create them. As Windows VU Meter is not a .exe I have not found a way of auto running it from the skin. Whilst other skins may be marginally simpler to apply (one less install button), they do not have a working VU meter and you will still have to define your media player unless you happen to use the same one as the skin author.

I dl'd the VU meters with no trouble with IE9. Just download the zip(green button at top of the page) and extract it. The .exe can be found here: \VU Meter_125\VU Meter\bin\Release
It runs out of the folder with no install needed. It needs skinning capabilities as the default background is just too plain.

Thanks for that, you are absolutely right, extract the Release folder only and the exe. runs just fine.
I have extracted the 'Release' folder in in the skin folder and renamed it "VU meter" for simplicity - i.e. on my PC "E:\Data Files\Rainmeter\Skins\Old Stereo\VU Meter").
Adding the following line to the [Rainmeter] section at the top of the skin auto launches the exe when the skin is run.
OnRefreshAction=!Execute ["#ROOTCONFIGPATH#VU Meter\VU Meter.exe"]
I will rebundle the skin and alter the instructions once I have check that this approach is OK and doesn't set of virus checkers etc Thank you again Wizard.

You are welcome, and thanks for the link to it. I'm a bit "old school" myself.

Its only an Internet 9 issue which is well documented now. Just install with another browser and you will have no problem. MS needs to fix this.

29 Dec - version 1.2 INCLUDES the .exe files for the VU in the skin folder and is set to launch when the skin starts. This should resolve the issue for all users.

O.k. ... I must be an idiot cuz I have no idea how to run the VU meter, all I see is a bunch of files inside a folder.
