Thank you all very much. Burarum and Xion 974, as for the Miranda (running clist modern) contact list, the status icons are from Imagine 2.0 (trashmonkey) - i simply recolored them for my purpose here. One way to create a transparent list background is to move any .msf file out of the directory that also houses the image (generally .png) files it makes use of, then select it in Miranda Options/Customize/Skin. Feel free to ask more about this if necessary
