I've only been a member of this community for about three weeks but I'm addicted already. I'm posting these screenshots for all of the people here who are always begging for 1280 x 800 res. These screenshots are proof that its not necessary. All you need is 1280 x 1024, a little creativity, and some time to do a bit of slicing and dicing. It also doesn't hurt to have Adobe's PhotoShop and ImageReady (or similar programs)to help personalize your downloads.
I now have several desktops from both buzzh58 and gef that were all 1280 x 1024 downloads. Thanks to both of you for the complete transformation of my laptop. Kudo's also to tehZERO for his WB Eminence, and the many others here from whom I have snaked various bits and pieces to suit my own tastes and preferences. There are many brilliant and creative people here. BTW, I have also replaced both my Boot and Logon screens by trimming the original 1280 x 1024's downloads to 1280 x 800.
The screenshots shown here started out as buzzh58's VmaX desktop (
Link When you compare these with his original, you can see that I was able to keep quite a bit of the eye candy and functionality of his theme while still maximizing the real estate needed for actually getting some real work done. Examples: On the sidebar I didn't need the trash or as many menu buttons, thus freeing up room to not only keep everything else but also enabling me to bring the weather gadget over from the Start menu. There was even enough room for me to include my E and F drives in Systems-Info. FYI - I use both Outlook and Outlook Express for email, hence the Stamp and Envelope shortcuts. Also, the SysTray, the open windows on the Task Bar (better privacy), and the time are all mouse over's now.
Anyway, the main reason for posting this was to give hope and encouragement to all of you laptop owners out there who love what you see here but think you've been left out.
And for the record, no... we are not known as the Bubblehead family.
