Nothing looked right though. I just couldn't get the effect I wanted.
A very early draft to get complementary colors and a idea about spacing:

I like the one with the mono-tone background. As to colors, it seems the problem is that the tension produced by contrasting colors conflicts with the overall sense of calm. If you can find colors that work, it would be very cool.

Thanks for the feedback srdiamond. I may take another shot at it with the colors from Framed Again. I liked those.
