The absence of color within this gives it somewhat of a charcoal-esque feeling; as if someone sat down and did this by hand on with charcoals and canvas paper.
The verticle/horizontal grains constitute a canvas-type paper, while bluring effects add to the usual smudging of an artist's hands seen in charcoal drawings.
The bottom of the cube is slightly more blurry than the top, and the blur of the ring is slightly off-balanced as well, so while it's not "perfect," it's far from ordinairy, and very well done.

hum.. try adding just some slight amounts of red rays!! that would look pretty good ( im partial to red )
