like Dror said it looks like the ship has been painted. there should be a way that you can add more refelectivness to the hull and feather out the red dust/nebula/clouds/whatever in the back.

arraciFleahciM, I dont think you can get a trial for 3dsmax, but you can get gmax (Which is a full version, scaled-down, version of 3sdmax) from www.discreet.com (Just browse around a little, youll find it) 
But beware, it is NOT for beginners and has a very steep learning curve if you've never used any other 3d proggys before.

It looks pretty good. Did you model this your self. One thing you might try is to take a raytraced clear glass and mix it with your blue texture color and add that to the haul. That would take away some of the flatness to it. Another thing you might try is to use some differnt textures around the ship with a rased bump map just to real it up a bit. Maybe some raytrace red glass where the lights are and stuff. Im not knocking your model by any means. Its easy to look at something you didnt do and go .. Oh well you shoulda done this or that. I think the big thing is, is that your happy with it. I think you did a great job!

Humble thanks , I wish I actually made the model myself-the Sharlin warcruiser is by Fabio Passaro(credits are on the image),an excellent 3D artist (meshweaver.com, check it out!)while the Whitestars are by Kier Darby at ap3d.com. I had to convert them from lightwave(another 3D modeling app)and fix textures, coloring and make the scene.I used a Max plugin called FreePyro to make the nebula-tricky to learn, but I'm starting to get the gist of it.I'm self-taught and an amateur compared to these guys,but hopefully it'll come in time.BTW, Max5 is around $600 for Educational version!

Very nice! I have very little 3D experience, but enough to appreciate the time it can take, Well done. Great pic too, as i loved BAB5 and was sore upset when it went off broadcast tv.
