When someone posts a link with screenshots, how can you not comment on the look of it? In this case especially, since the 'Fisher-Price' look is so obvious.

I don't really care about the tabs. I use Firefox, but I still prefer to have seperate windows rather than tabs.

I have nothing against, Microsoft. I usually think Microsoft is often demonized unfairly. But in this case, they dropped the ball on the overall look of Office. I think they're trying to be cutesy like Apple, but it doesn't work out. I liked Microsoft when it was more about functionality rather than aesthetics. XP was good because at least we could keep the functionality, but substitute the look with the help of Stardock.

If only every program could be skinnable...

And, to be honest, aesthetics does (at least for me) influence usability. If something is a bright, bubbly, obnoxious color or appearance I simply cannot use it as long. There are certain skins that I think look great, but simply cannot use for any extended period of time.

I could not use that blue interface for very long without it really becoming a pain.

I've Been testing the betas for a while now and I have to say that just like when Windows XP first came out I hated it because I couldn't seem to find anything but after using Office 12 (2007) for a while now and with the new beta refresh I'm really starting to like it. It has a lot of functions which are now easier to find with the command tabs and the interface is aesthetically pleasing also.

Sadly, from the looks of it, Office is gonna remain "unskinnable." Too bad. Then again, maybe Vista will make skinning even Office possible. We can always hope.

I agree with hashonbat. It really is easier to use and much less complex.

Been using office 12 (2007) since the last prerelease, around november I think. Was good then, is great now. I agree with people about the default blue skin but seriously how many simple users even change from luna blue to silver in XP? The black skin is cool though

the new office is nice to use, much better than office 2003 - i have used office "12" beta 1, and i liked the tabs it had. though i don't use my pc hardly (i need to do some parts replacing), but it looks much nicer than office 2003

I too have been using the Office 12 Pre-Release and appearance wise, It is better than Office 2003 (although it could be better) I too however, am getting more used to it after 2 months of using it. Functionality wise, it is better than Office 2003.

I do know that the Pre-Release is quite unstable, but being Beta that's no surprise.

I will definately be in line for the Final Release mid-year.

I would just like, for once, to see people just respond to a MS product based on what you think about it not because of prior experiences because no one has tested this program yet cause it's not out yet, it is only in BETA, yet it is being condemned already simply because of it being from MS.

Hmmmm........well then, that would leave the UI as the main target for comments and what not.

As far as not judging MS by previous experiences? HUH? Are you serious? I bet you lose a lot of money at carnivals.

I'm sure Billy boy will put a nice little bonus in your (blue?) mailbox though!

Actually, I like the look of it. I wish I was Beta testing this one but I'm not.

I even like the blue UI LOL! MS? I don't want to hurt your feelings so I'll keep that to myself

I kind of like overall direction MS is going in (with office that is).....But, I feel like the GUI is forced on it's users. I like WB because I can change XP's GUI when I feel like it. I hope this will be possible with Office '07. They should have stuck with the Aero Glass look if they are going to force a GUI on us. The Care Bear Bubbly Blue ain't workin. OH leave the skinning to folks like frogboy, jjying, etc....

Please keep in mind that it is still in beta, until it reaches beta 2 anything can change (although most will not.) The GUI is here to stay, like it or not. It does make productivity much easier in the work enviroment. It also has plenty of new features that will keep you busy, yet making everything easier on teh end user.

"Microsoft gave official word this week that the next version of Office will coincide with the general availability of Windows Vista in January 2007.

Previously, both products had been scheduled for release in the second half of 2006."

For the most part beta users can discuss anything, except 2 unreleased programs, and the beta 2 information. But anything for groove, server products, and regular products is allowed to be pubically discussed. This coming directly from microsoft developers.

Been to the Office Developers Conference up in Redmond -

What I like:
The Ribbon - can be fully customizeable by a developer.
All Office Docs will now have a new extension (.docx, .xlsx, .pptx, etc) this is because all of the files are now ZIP files - yes you heard it correctly - ZIPpped files.
They did this for a number of reasons - most importantly is the ability to change the file(s) from a Server side process without having to launch the actual application(Word/Excel/...) and just make changes to the DATA (which is in an XML file somewhere in the ZIP)
Also , the file sizes are much , much smaller (not that disk space is an issue.)

Some neat stuff for devs -

I kind of like the new UI - will have to play with it for a while to get a feel for it.

I saw a video presentation of Office 2007 and I think it is the greatest improvement since the advent of office.
