VH1 Spoofs "I'm a Mac and I'm a PC" ads

burn...!

Monday, July 17, 2006 by Draginol | Discussion: OS Wars

I own a Mac. But I mainly use a PC.  What really makes me sour on using a Mac or even buying a Mac is firstly the fanatical Mac community that acts more like a cult at times and secondly the pretensiousness of Apple in how they market the thing. It's like they consider the on-line "jerk" to be their core market demographic.

When I hear some Mac guy talking about how they're doing all these neat things I just want to say "Yea, that's nice. I've been doing preemptive multitasking for a decade now. Sit down."

Check out this parody / spoof of the Mac vs. PC ads.

Who cares what other people say, think, or do? I just use whatever works for me and makes me happy. I don't care at all about any fanatical community of any product or company.

I hate the fact that the originals are full of lies. It seems odd to hear about Microsoft getting sued constantly for bundling tons of apps in the OS, while Mac tools portray windows as only coming with a calculator. Also how much "fun" they are, even though the electronics stores I go to seem to only have a couple aisles of Mac "fun".

Like music, movies, etc., the biggest posers are always the people who are deathly afraid of being posers. Every time I see someone say they wouldn't be caught dead using a PC it reminds me of unwashed people in college that wouldn't have been caught dead listening to any band the average person had heard of. The minute one became popular they refused to listen to them any more.

Given that, I wonder if popularity will really help Apple, or if their core fans will just reject them because they've become too mainstream. I think the parody ads here are dead on.

I found em funny. Anyone that I've spoken to who is passionate about their mac absolutely loathes them.

My daughter just bought a Mac (against my very clear, reasoned advice) because her boyfriend has one.  I can't wait to show her these two hilarious videos!

I'd be surprised if any of the (real) Mac vs. PC ads convince (Windows) PC users that they should buy a Mac. For those that do, they're going to be really irritated when they find that Macs do not include drivers for everything, that there is indeed a slew of useless software installed on their Mac, and even more irritated when they find that Macs do crash.

It seems to me that Apple is preaching to the Choir.

Well said Tom.  Moreover, PC users would likely get annoyed at the lack of choices in software. Not the big stuff mind you but lots of little utilities and apps.

I think getting angry over the spoofs is as silly as getting angry over the actual ads themselves. Ads are stupid. That's a fact of life. Not everybody can make cool ads like Jack in the Box!

I'm using a Mac and I'm having fun. I also happen to run windows on my mac for the best of both worlds. PS those commercials could have used an extra five minutes of work as the first five minutes didn't make them all that witty.
