The Sounds of Windows Vista
45 new sounds added to Vista

"Sounds are obviously an important part of how people interact with their PC. The idea is to use your ears to get information from a sound without even thinking about it. For example, certain sounds on our PC tell us when we have a new email or instant message."

Otherwise it's prefectly safe! |
With so many 'DO NOTS' involved, I have considerable doubt in trusting the "Otherwise it's perfectly safe" assurance at the end.....
Besides, when Vista trials are freely available from MS, why on earth would anyone wanna stick an imposter transformation pack over XP....also a WC member strongly advised against it after it carboshed his PC, so not really a good idea.

Really doesn't sound like it to be honest. I went through the "making XP look like Vista phase" like many others, but I did it all with ObjectDesktop.

Seems a bit reminiscent of StyleXP....hacks system files and don't put 'em back. No thanks, Vista RC2 is quite stable and gives me all the Vista-ness I need right now.
BTW, thanks for the info, ID...after reading an article that linked to what were obviously bogus Vista sounds, I've been rather interested in what would eventuate.

I think Vista Transformation Pack is kinda..well..unsafe. |
You're not alone in that conclusion....read an article condemning VTP as being the most poorly designed and OS-harmful software ever designed. Can't remember exactly where cos I visit so many (PC related) sites, but I think it was the Systinternals guy who recently teamed up with MS.
Point is, if a PC guru says it's unwise to install VTP, that's more than enough for me to avoid it like the plague......and why bother anyway, the Vista test versions provide the better Vista experience and are more stable.

However, the Aero is very nice. I'm not sure if Vista will do this(but it probably will), but by holding ctrl+alt+shift and clicking the start bar and widows you have open, you can change the transparency of the window!
The transformation pack is here:

It's very important that you do not click ANYTHING after starting this. There is one message that confirms your OS type that is part of the gui changer, but do not do anything else. Even clicking on any windows that come up will ruin your computer. Also, shutdown your virus scans and spybot and things of that nature. You might also want to create a system restore before you change the files. Otherwise it's prefectly safe!
