Post your thoughts, questions, issues with Object Desktop 2009 here.

Tuesday, November 18, 2008 by Zargon | Discussion: Object Desktop

When Object Desktop 2009 is released, this is where the known issues will be posted.  Please post your findings here as well.  Thank you!

Notes and Known Issues: (all issues are being worked on at this time)

Theme Manager 3.0 (Published at 11am)

  • Aero Midnight theme included as a .suite file for Object Desktop customers.
  • My Desktop / Save My Desktop: Dreams, skins and cursors sometimes do apply when saved as part of a suite.  Please apply through the Applications tab as a workaround at this time.
  • Applications / Cursors: Sometimes cursors take two applies before applying.
  • My Desktop / Create New Theme: The Download URL function is not working at this time.
  • Please update SoundPackager before applying sounds through Theme Manager 3.0.
  • Users will need to open SoundPackager one time to have sound packages show up in Theme Manager 3.0.
  • Fixed - On systems that do not have MyColors installed, an error about the StardockWeather.ocx file not being registered will display when applying weather gadgets.
  • The Aero Midnight skin does not extract and apply 100% of the time on faster hardware.

Deskscapes 2.5 (with XP support published at 1pm)

  • With a Dream file applied dragging and dropping icons from the desktop to a folder does not work at this time.
  • Please visit this web site to review video card requirement details.  In short, AGP Video cards are not supported at this time.  Future driver updates from NVIDIA/ATI will add support later this year.  At that time only AGP 8x will be supported (4x/2x/1x bus speeds are not adequate to support dream functionality at low CPU).
  • The Watercolor Dream may exhibit some distortion on Windows XP.

Bootskin Pro 1.0 (published at 6:30pm)

  • There is a new WinCustomize gallery for Windows Vista bootskins.  Boot skins created for XP will not work with Bootskin Pro.
  • Bootskin Pro allows users to create boot skins for Windows Vista, so boot skins created for XP can be re-generated and uploaded to WinCustomize.
  • Bootskin Pro Create boot skin tab will attempt to read your Object Desktop Ultimate serial from the registry.  If the serial number field is blank, paste in your Object Desktop Ultimate serial number to create a boot skin.
  • There may be an issue with .bootskin file associations on some systems.

WindowBlinds 6.3 (published on 11/18/2008)

  • Windows Vista 64-bit users may need to reboot after install if skins do not apply correctly.

ObjectDock Plus 1.90

Vista 64bit

Recently installed Iconpackager

Problem: Objeckdock used to work fine (besides the tray but I'm not using it)

now some of the icons in my tabbed docks are missing after installing IconPackager, I think all the missing ones are LowRes icons, I tried disabling HiRes on ObjectDock (relaunch) and nothing changed.

If I try to change the icon using the "Dock Entry Properties" dialog when I browse for an specific app and choose it, the icon remains blank.

For instance I tried to change the icon from Yousendit, and even if that executable has an icon it doesn't show up and remains blank.

Even tried to rebuld icons in Vista system, and tried setting icons on Iconpackager back to the original ones...no help.

any ideas? can I force ObjectDock to rebuild icons?

I just purchased WindowBlinds 6.4. I just installed Theme Manager 3.09 and CursorFX 2.01. I can't get TM to apply the wallpaper or cursors of the theme I just created using "save my desktop". I need this to work or it's worthless to me. I don't care about any other themes/suites but the ones I create. I want to got to be able to go to suites and load everything at once. I don't want to have to load a skin, then load a wallpaper, then load a cursor. So, is this still broken?

Did you purchase JUST windowblinds or did you purchase Object Desktop? Windowblinds & Thememanager are 2 different things and while Windowblinds is a part of a theme there are several other programs involved with thememanager. If you purchased Object Desktop all should work once installed. Make sure tp set Thememanager to "I want to see advanced options when applying suites"

I only purchased windowblinds. You don't even buy theme manager, it's free. Unless you get a different version in Object Destop. Which has programs I don't want or need. The same with Desktop Ultimate.

And yes, I tried the obvious "advanced options" tab. There is obviously a problem, there is a bullet on the top of this page concerning "my desktop/save my desktop" along with cursors having to be applied twice before it applies in cursorfx. The workaround was to apply things through the applications tab. Seperately. One at a time. That sux. The purpose of creating a "theme", is to have all apps load at the same time. If theme manager does not do that, it worthless. You don't need theme manager to apply a wallpaper, icons or cursors. They sell other programs that do that. Which I have. Theme manager, I thought, would do it all for you at the same time, hence a "theme".

My Desktop / Save My Desktop: Dreams, skins and cursors sometimes do not apply when saved as part of a suite.  Please apply through the Applications tab as a workaround at this time.

So, my question still stands: Is it still broken?

Stardock has dropped support for XP x64.  No further development will be done on this platform.  I would suggest updating to 64 bit Vista or Windows 7.

The icon says installed however DeskScapes does not show up on the Object Desktp tab of Impule at all. Do I need to double click the activate file in Program Files/Stardock/Object Desktop/Deskscapes?
To apply a dream after installing Deskscapes on XP.  Right click on the desktop and choose properties.  From the Display Properties menu Deskscapes now has a tab.

Been looking for instructions on how to install Deskscapes! Thanks!

Just do it through Impulse.

What's the need for the link to the Candida test, alexis0fdreams? *edit: Thanx, Mod!

My apologies if this has already been discussed in this thread, but I'm not going to have much time anytime soon to go through the whole thing...

I can only get a few programs from the Object Desktop package to install.  I am certain I'm only trying the ones that are compatible with my OS (Windows 7 64 bit).

The ones that do install seem to work perfectly and I'm enjoying them (Fences Pro, LoginStudio, Icon Packager).

The ones that don't install, in every case it goes through most of the install routine, then hangs with the "Installing" indicator in the status column, the "working" icon turning, and there is no apparent way to get it to stop (I have left it running overnight with the same result).  I can "X" out of Impulse after a few tries, and after that, the program sometimes appears as "installed," but will not run.  Any attempt to remove the "broken" program--using either Impulse or Control Panel--results in the uninstall also hanging.  The only way to get rid of it seems to be to do a system restore.  I have tried this with Windowblinds 7, Sound Packager, and Rightclick Menu.

The first time I tried to install Windowblinds 7, my virus program, Threatfire, did trigger when it tried to install x86.exe...I instructed it to ignore and allow the install to proceed.  I have since tried these installs both with and without Threatfire running, with no apparent difference.

My system specs, if it matters:

Intel Core 2 Duo

nVidia GTX 260M

6GB RAM

Zargon. With regards to Theme Manager not closing correctly I have tracked the problem down to trying to load Deskscapes. When loading Descapes all I get is the torch searching and Descapes does not load any dreams. After closing Theme Manager the process is still working in the background using about 50% of the CPU. I have Intel E6750 installed. Could this be because I have a lot of dream files installed. They are installed in the default location, Documents\Stardock\Dreams.

Hi there. I purchased Object Desktop last year when I had Windows XP 32-bit. Now I shifted to Windows 7 64-bit and Impulse does not allow me to restore my archives saying they were not compiled for this OS. On the other hand I don't have access to my existing purchases from the Impulse Store because my subscription has expired.

Isn't there a means for me to have my purchased versions compatible with my current OS without having to buy it over again?

If you click on "My Account" towards the top left of this page, right underneath "Welcome sursubbu", then click on the "Registrations" tab (furthest on the right), do you see your software listed with 2 download links (one is Impulse and one is the Object Desktop exe)?  Not sure if that would work after expiration but thought it would be worth a shot.  Also not sure exactly when the various components of OD became Win7 compatible.

I just upgraded from WinXP to Win7x64. I am sad to lose WindowsFX because I lived by the use of live Window Tiles. I used it constantly. Will this functionality be recreated in another part of Object Desktop? PLEASE...

I also used IconX. Have these functions moved to another part of OD?

Also, I installed RightClick and noticed I could not find the menu when I right clicked the desktop. I played around and found that if I right click the desktop and get the Windows menu, then right click the taskbar (with the Windows menu still up), I get the RightClick menu. I have yet to get the RighClick menu to work with clipboard though.

A new WindowFX is currently under development.  It will not have all the features of the XP version, but it should have window tiles.
