'Find the Stardog' Hunt Begins!
Monday, December 15, 2008 by Island Dog | Discussion: Personal Computing
The hunt for Stardog begins at 12pm EST today. Hunt down Stardog throughout our various sites for a chance to win a $100 gift certificate to the Impulse Store. There will be a winner each day!
How to play:
Entrants must register for an Impulse account in order to play. If you already have an Impulse account, you don't need to do anything else before the contest begins. Each day during the contest there will be a new scavenger hunt with a different winner for every day.
The first clue will always be shown on the Stardog page. Clues are identified by an image of Stardog hidden somewhere on the page. To reveal the clue, click on the image of Stardog, and he will give you a hint for your next destination, where you will need to look for his new hiding spot.
Everytime you find a clue there will be a letter in Stardog's paw print. Keep track of the letters in each clue.
Once you have found the final clue and solved the scrambled word, you will be asked to enter your Impulse account information. This information will be sent to the prize department and they will contact you with information on how to receive your prize. The dynamic chart above will show how many contestants have found each clue and when the daily winner has completed the hunt. Once the winner has been found, the hunt will end for that day.
Make sure you have your Impulse account setup, and get ready to play!

Well we seem to have a winner for the day already. As such, it seems that all the doggies have disappeared so no one else can play.
Since we have a winner already, care to tell us the details of where they were, answer to the clues, and any other details (or will that have to wait till friday after the last prize has been won?)?

No that the first day's contest is over, I would like to submit a bug report. Firstly, as soon as the contest started, the progress tracker showed one person on clue five already, and another on clue one. After I refreshed the page, it did not show any numbers at all until Shadowdragoon won. Also, the Stardogs seem to all give the same clue, which I think may be intentional, but then on the 'do you hear what I hear" one, something strange happened. I went to the SoundPackager website, where I found a dog who gave me the same "do you hear what I hear" clue. Then I refreshed the page, thinking it was an error, and the dog was gone! I wondered if they didn't appear until you completed the previous clues, so I went back to the first one to do them again. The first one then also gave me the "do you hear what I hear" clue. Finally, Shadowdragoon won, which is the only thing the progress tracker showed, until I restarted IE. Now the progress chart shows all the numbers, and all of the dogs are gone (which I assume is intentional).
I hope you can fix this before tomorrow, I should like to have a fair chance at winning. Also, I wasn't supposed to actually hear anything with the "do you hear" clue, was I? Because I didn't.
Also, there was another dog on the Object Desktop site that gave me that clue as well.

I am using Safari for Windows and I didn't have any problem whatsoever. It might be a good idea to remind us to unscramble the word on the page where you put in your answer because I was in such a rush I for got to do it before I pressed enter. Just so you know.

The dog can appear on any site run by Stardock.
Clue #1 - was on the Stardog page. Clue given was something about you wanting to be "General or assassin" (Letter: None. Paw was empty)
Answer: Demigod [link]

Answer: Soundpackager [link]
Clue #3 "I have a big family, but here you can see images of them" (Letter: 'P')
Answer: Stardock -> About -> Management [link]
Clue #4 "I like burry my bones to keep the safe" (Letter: 'Y')
Answer: Dunno... I got stock there
(Clue #2 and #3 may have been in reverse order)

There was already a winner....? And I don't see the clue...
And I'm not 18 so I guess I can't win...

The answer to Clue #4 was the KeepSafe homepage.

DOH... offcause >.<
No need to keep the clues since a winner has been found.
(Ended about 12:25pm SD time)
Doc... I believe you'll survive using another browser just for this

Hehe.. think i should have posted here earlier.
Was a fun game, and well, trying to choose prices before the contest made it a bit moore easy to get where the clues lead. and good usage of the sites search was helpfull too. Keepsafe i found easy, the sound one, i had slight trubble.
quite the fun game, and well good luck to the contestants in the next 4 games.
(PS, my time was under 7 min acording to the mail i got from Stardock)

That's stupid, I had the sound one pinned down right away, but the thing gave me the same freaking clue as before!
Then the dog disappeared when I refreshed the page and I couldn't get the actual third clue.
Freaking contest.

Well, i wonder if such a 'behavior' isn't like this on purpose.
Sure, we can 'auto-refresh' by option by setting our browsers preference... but, tell me, who'd bother reloading pages *continually* if they have a very slow bandwidth?
Technicalities, maybe - but, you have to understand that not everyone has the www infrastructure to compete with full-blown personal systems. I doubt SD can fix this though.
In all fairplay considerations - even if i can log on at exactly 12:00:01 seconds, i'd still have to wait for my pages to refresh (or even stick to the cache processing ratio) AS they physically can (using SeaMonkey & not Firefox has some advantages, maybe yet again). And i'm a lucky one with a router on regular Ethernet above or slightly below (depending on traffic & miscellaneous activities by a ISP, flow through normal lags & what else!) DSL-1MBs or patched within Local @10MBs or higher -- again, that depends.
Clock timing may matter, but higher tech stuff should **ALWAYS** win such a contest.
Although, smarts may help - by correctly guessing the clues faster than anyone else -- after all, $100 is a big chunk of cash -- (at noon instead of 8:00PM or any others at prime-time, i might add)... some choices had to be made.
Woooofff!

Wow, ok. We are not talking about the same thing at all. I am saying that I solved the second clue, but on the SoundPackager page, the dog gave me the second clue again, instead of the third one. I refreshed the page to see if that would fix it, and the dog disappeared.
Now that I think about it though, Shadowdragoon might just have finished right before I refreshed the page. On the other hand, the Progress Tracker didn't appear to be working either, until I restarted IE after the contest was over. Maybe I'll just use Firefox tomorrow.
So I'm not complaniing about losing necessarily, but rather that the clue didn't work right.

i had a problem with the second clue also...i knew where to go...so i went to soundpackager and there was no dog there....i was lost....

IQ... then, it's a simple 'coincidence' that many of us surely experienced while we were also in transit between clue auto_logins. I can foresee a busier time period as soon as 12:00 clocks into our lives for the next four days, heavy traffic is to be expected judging through the number of participants (680+) just today that solved the first clue!
Jojo... well, four more shots at it for everyone!

Well there is always the posibility that someone won before you loaded the next page...... (I know that I got it done EXTREAMLY quickly and I had no problem.)

I have a suggestion for the competition. When you get to a page with a clue, instead of getting rid of the dog when there's a winner, how bout putting a new message there, stating the game is won instead of having to constantly go backto the stardog webpage to see?
It gets tiresome hunting for clues that have disapeared.

Not only that but on my PC if I go back to the main page I have to start over and go through all the steps again. I just gave up on #5 as I kept having to restart.

Just to clarify, will the dog ever show up on actual sites, or only in forums? If it's just the forums I can play, but alot of filters restrict Stardock games sites for some reason....
