'Find the Stardog' Hunt Begins!

Monday, December 15, 2008 by Island Dog | Discussion: Personal Computing

The hunt for Stardog begins at 12pm EST today.  Hunt down Stardog throughout our  various sites for a chance to win a $100 gift certificate to the Impulse Store.  There will be a winner each day!

How to play:

Entrants must register for an Impulse account in order to play. If you already have an Impulse account, you don't need to do anything else before the contest begins. Each day during the contest there will be a new scavenger hunt with a different winner for every day.

The first clue will always be shown on the Stardog page. Clues are identified by an image of Stardog hidden somewhere on the page. To reveal the clue, click on the image of Stardog, and he will give you a hint for your next destination, where you will need to look for his new hiding spot.

Everytime you find a clue there will be a letter in Stardog's paw print. Keep track of the letters in each clue.

Once you have found the final clue and solved the scrambled word, you will be asked to enter your Impulse account information. This information will be sent to the prize department and they will contact you with information on how to receive your prize. The dynamic chart above will show how many contestants have found each clue and when the daily winner has completed the hunt. Once the winner has been found, the hunt will end for that day.

Make sure you have your Impulse account setup, and get ready to play!

More fair?  The hell if it is.

Now those who actually do well on this have a lower chance, and others who did poorly have a greater chance.  How is that fair?  Are you a socialist?

To have a shot on being first you need a reliable internet connection with low ping against all the included stardock sites. It also needs to be blazing fast... On the off chance that you actually have all those things, you also need to be well versed in stardock products and somewhat smart about interpreting the clues... If you finished the clues later than 5 minutes past noon, you were not the first correct answer.

And it IS more fair, regardless of you being greedy or not. Though in my opinion the contest shouldn't run for more than 30 minutes to minimize the spreading of the solution among friends everywhere... (The logic being that a friend winning is better than someone else unknown...)

From Stardocks point of view it doesn't really matter who wins the prize...

EDIT: I forgot to add one thing.... Thanks for brightening my day, I'm still smiling.

I still like the idea of first to figure it out prize and booby prize sweepstakes for the rest. but I agree, there are those out there who can complete the game in under five minutes, severely handicapping the rest of the group. hmmmm happy medium... is there such a thing?(maybe john edwards...?)

You could make it a drawing between the top five people...

I still don't like the random drawing thing.

And I have to ask: will we ever know who won today?

I knew exactly what #5 was right away, since I own a copy of Galactic Civilizations II, but I visited the wrong website for it (galciv2.com instead of impulsedriven.com).

i went to both sites and i couldn't find it

i guess i'll have to hope for better luck tomorrow morning (first time i tried was tonight)

I missed the first hunt, so I was eager to enter the second one. Submitted the answer when there were about 15 people working on the 5th clue and refreshed the page like mad to see if I won or not

Now that the rule has been changed, I am so sad (really  ).

Never before I won a game of luck

I'm greedy too, you see - and I never win anything that involves luck. This random drawing thing has totally shot my chances of winning.

Duh- Get real... when money is involved even luck can make **ANYONE** a clear winner.

I agree that picking a final winner out of a reasonable amount of clue solvers (in a limited time, as decided righfully so, by SD themselves, btw) might seem unfair when the numbers rack up beyond good chance(s) -- but, the whole internet speed factor must be taken into considerations too and not everyone can log on AT 12:00 sharp to enhance their listing odds.

Besides, it IS fun just to participate *** times in a week i must add!

Right, I would be totally fine with it if the time limit was shorter, say, an hour to finish.  However, leaving it open all day penalizes the people who actually can and do well on this game (which actually happens to include me this time around).

Anyway, do you think we'll ever know who actually won?

Yes, according to the Stardog Page "Phalaxis" won.

Finally, someone won.  That was horridly inefficient - yet another reason to stick with the first winner.

Completed! Heh I got stuck on #1 for the longest time and then I slapped myself because it was so obvious.

I can't figure out number three for the life of me.  Making it better than it was before?  Not WinCustomize, not the GUIC, not Object Desktop, not an expansion for Sins or GC2, not Stardock Support, blah, blah, blah.  Is this thing not working again?

It's not a clue, it's just pointing at stardock and stating a (mostly) true fact... It can mean pretty much any page anywhere...

actually that was one of the easier clues. glad I'm not the only one that had a hard time finding number two though.. still the lowest number found

True, that one was sooo generic. At first i was sure they meant the witcher *enchanced* version but that turned out to be false.

Whatever, just keep looking.

And the second one...that one was buggy again. I needed several refeshes to see the dog and i think that certain page is causing issues just like yesterday for me.

So, if it's pretty much any site, you would think that I would have found it.

It isn't on Stardock's main page, or Stardock Design, etc. which would make the most sense if it was generic clue.

Next time Stardock has a contest I hope they make sure it works better than this one has been.
