Brad "Frogboy" Wardell Selected as a Game Industry Hero for 2008!

"A smart advocate of digital distribution"

Monday, December 22, 2008 by Spartan | Discussion: Everything Else

A couple weeks ago I asked people to nominate Frogboy for the third annual Edge Game Industry Heroes Award (EGIHA). It is given to 25 people in the industry worldwide that engender respect for the profession and demonstrated superior ability in achieving lasting tangible positive results throughout the year. They are seen as a catalyst of success and inspire confidence and admiration within their peer group and others.

I like to think of the EGIHA as an a combined Olympic & Oscar award for the gaming industry. There is no particular order of rank however. The named recipients are simply considered the best and the brightest the industry had to offer for the given year by the Edge editorial board. I think this is a very nice well deserved honor for Brad and his maverick activities for nearly two decades in establishing and building SD and crafting its alliances within the industry.

Moreover it is also a great testament to team SD as well as team IC for all their hard work this past year. After all a leader is nothing without a solid team of people around him/her and it appears SD & IC have it in spades. This is especially so given the company surrounding Brad on the list. Consequently I say it makes the SD family the biggest little guys out there.

You're probably right. What do you think, an acid bath? The goggles, they might do something!

Idk, but I'd feel sorry for the guy that has to give him the bath.

Quoting Annatar11, reply 8Well, Blair and Craig did get a mention in his description.. I was really kinda hoping they'd get on the list themselves (I nominated them as a single deal, can't really split them up, you know ), but instead we got a game tester who looks like a habitual drunk and an EA guy who looks like he's high.
Yeah I did as well. Well maybe next year after all the x-packs are out and people know them more.

They really should start a blog and do more self promotion things to get more name recognition. I suggest doing more stuff mod related. For example simpyl videos of how to start a mod -etc... Think grass roots baby!

Video tutorials and scenarios is a wonderful idea!!    Hope they take it up, or someone does!!

All hail the frog!

Just don't expect "the frog" to be on that shiny pedestal at all times. In the long run, it's all about business.

I knew I should have made up fake names and submitted him more than once.

I think he should be higher on the list.  I mean, some of the names up there are my heroes too (most of them in fact) but they have not been raising the bar industry wide in BOTH game-quality and business practice.

In an industry where EA and Take2 are bleeding money (despite record revenue!) there is something to be said about Brad's business sensibilities. Keep development costs low, appeal to your base, and support your products.

Stardock and its partners (Ironclad, GPG) make some of the best PC games around, but I think Stardock's business model is its most important contribution to the industry (especially as we read about ever stupider DRM, PC GAMING IS TEH DEADZ!!!1, and publishers spending ungodly sums of money to make a game).

Congrats Brad.

It is not a ranked list.

Yes. Will it be possible to play a giant green frog as chaneller - or at least transform into one close to one of the victory conditions being met!?
