IconDeveloper Suggestion Thread

Wednesday, March 11, 2009 by Island Dog | Discussion: OS Customization

We are in the process of updating IconDeveloper, and we wanted to take this opportunity to ask the community for feedback.

https://www.stardock.com/products/icondeveloper/

Basically, what you like to see to make IconDeveloper really shine?  We would also be interested to hear if you use IconDeveloper, and reasons why or why not.

We are looking for feature suggestions, but if you have bugs you want to bring to our attention, please tag it with #bug in your comment so we can sort through them.

Thank for your help!

I've only had occasion to use it maybe a dozen times but I think it is well laid out, easy and fast. The images I turned into icons look great. Overall,I found it very usefull.

I've found IconDeveloper to be quite useful so far, but (whether it's possible or not) I'd like to see the option to add drop shadows and maybe even reflections.

Also, while IconDeveloper imports images and converts tham 'as is', would it be possible to include tools to smooth/round edges of images to give a cleaner look to the finished ICO??

Harsh criticisms are welcomed as well.

Agreed.

  • What do you use it for the most?  Recoloring? Resizing?
  • Is the flow good?
  • Is there anything you wish it *did* do?

How about a tool that can add transperant parts to your icon cause a icon made with microsoft paint for example.i wouldnt like to see a white edge around the side and with the tool and can draw around the part i want to stay solid then right click what side you want transparent and click any side to turn it transparent

Yeah, that's more or less what I was trying to say.... cos sometimes, as hard as I try to clean up my  images in PSP, relics have appeared once the icon is made.   The ability to clean/tweak images in the final stage of icon production would be excellent, but also a background that better shows up imperfections would be nice.

I use it mostly for recoloring. I wish it included presets, or at least held the color settings from one icon in a set to the next. It's difficult to actually recolor a set consistently...unless of course I'm overlooking a feature that's already there

Support for importing OSX icons in mac binary format would be awesome. As for what I wish it'd do.... Read my mind and automatically generate any icon I need made, exactly how I want it.

Now that would be a bonus.... the icon gallery over at DA has quite a few OS-X dedicated icons that 'd look good in a Windows environment.

Also, enabling the Alpha Channel when batch converting images... at present I'm finding it disabled for bulk conversions

I got a reply on this request >HERE< (note that the reply was posted after I reposted the suggestion here, so I'm not a crossposting freak ), and it seems like we have a shot on getting it.

I haven't used it because I don't have that much of time.

I will try it later in summer vacation...

Still I would like it to be capable of.......

Texture Brush or Fill.

Add, Place & Resize Cliparts.

Containers For Icons eg spheres, cubes, pyramids etc.

Anti-aliasing (at edges)

Some effects filters.. morph, border, glow, fill with shapes, snow, rain, lines, glitter etc...

Sorry If I am talking silly, I have no experience of creating icons...

A very nice feature would be if IconDeveloper could be used to change the "embedded" icon of an .exe file.

Google finds dozens of such utilities, I dare to try none of those.

That's one of the things I wish IconPackager could do, so that icons are the same in whatever context an app displays them.

Hi !

I use IconDeveloper  ocasionaly, but so far it's the StarDock tool  that I use most.

I use IconDeveloper to Create Icons to my Folders, so that  the Image gives me a quick Idea of what is inside.  It may seem too simple, but  along the day it saves a precious time.

My Feed back is;

  1. But.., IconDeveloper  it's not a quite friendly tool. No !  It's  very simple, but I did not find out  how to change the Size the Icon appears  in front of the folder
  2. It does not "See" the  .dll icons  that I can choose from the  System32,  those standard  Windows Icons.
  3. I cannot  save as a .dll !!  I also don't know  IF  it worths !!??
  4. The PREVIEW  should show us How exactly  the Icon will appear,  with its real Size.
  5. It  "suggest's" too much !  I don't know  to choose, e.g.,  It does not say much to me 256x256  or 16x16 !! What is that ?  It should  say HOW BIG would be the File of the Icon.
  6. I should ASK  --> How will I use this Icon,  In a File manager, or  ...,
  7. The  Color  adjust tool works good, surprised me the way I can change the color of something,  but  it's difficult to come back to the original color, I had to close without saving and  open again.
  8. I DO RECOMMEND  that you  DON'T  ABANDON  the IconDeveloper because it's a great tool  and  there is not much programs like this. So.. it worths to maintain  and  I, of course would purchase an upgraded version.

That's my Feed back
