Fences Pro Updated to v1.1

Tuesday, November 30, 2010 by Island Dog | Discussion: Personal Computing

Fences is the widely popular application from Stardock that helps you wrangle up those icons spread out all over your desktop.  The v1.1 update for Fences Pro is out today with various fixes and improvements.

  • Added ability to toggle hidden fences at startup
  • Added "Hide shortcut arrows on desktop icons" to Appearance tab
  • Reliability improvements based on user feedback
  • Numerous small UI tweaks
  • Improved multimonitor support
  • Icons no longer have risk of falling out of their fence on F5 and/or monitor resize
  • Fixed flicker when moving a fence behind the taskbar on Win7
  • Fixed issue where new icons could become "stranded" until interacted with, particularly on XP
  • Fixed issue where moving Fences beneath the bottom of the screen exhibited odd behavior
  • Improved "Disable Fences" functionality
  • Fences now "come to the front" when moved. Fixes behavior where you could move a Fence behind another and then lose access to it.

Current users can update via Impulse.  More information about Fences can be found at its website.

There seems to be a problem downloading this update, I.D. I get an error message.

*edit: Fixed with Rosco's help.

The fix was 1. Hide the update. 2. Unhide and run the update.

I may have been a little too hasty. It doesn't seem to recognize the update and keeps wanting to update. When in Impulse it says v1.1.0.348 and IIn Fences Config it says v1.1.0.375. I've applied the update 3 times now and restarted as many times and the problem remains.. Ooops!

I tried that and it didn't help. Then I hid the update, closed and restarted Impulse and unhid the update. Then I installed it without problems. Try that Cindy.

nope, didnt work.

Here is a thought....maybe someone at stardock should fix it, we should not have to jump through hoops just to get an update.

I agree they should fix it!

Here is how I got it to install. Go to Preferences - Archive & Install, then Uncheck "Archive Applications before updating". It installed after that.

I had no problem installing on a Win 7 64bit system, but then I don't use the archive function, which from what folks are saying is where the problem seems to be.

An alternative is to uninstall Fences from Impulse (Choose to keep your settings and backups when asked) and then install the new version. The downside is you have to reboot 2 times (when uninstalling and re-installing). The new version doesn't have problems with archiving though.

I just turned off archiving, installed, and turned it back on.

That's the ticket right there. I also turned off automatic archiving and voila! I was able to update.

Hi All,  For some reason after updating my Fences Pro I still don't have the "hide shortcut icons" option as seen in pictures.  Rebooted after update & when that didn't work, uninstalled and re-installed and still the same?
