Current Object Desktop subscribers
Visit your Stardock account now to download the beta and you will also have free access to the final release version in the near future.

cballin, a subscription gets you updates as long as your subscription is valid. Buying a standalone version gets you free updates to the next full version number, as in WB 7.xxx to 7.9. WB 8 will require a new purchase. This is just one reason it's much wiser to buy a subscription and keep it active.

Why only object desktop customers?? I've bought several of these apps separately so i don't get the upgrade??? what gives?
The following betas will likely open access.
With something as new as this limiting the release has made addressing issues much easier.
Thanks for understanding.

What's in Windows 7 that's missing from Vista that prevents this release from running on my Vista PC. I really hate the idea of paying #219 (still after all these years) to upgrade to Windows 7 Ultimate, the only version that allows me to do an in-place upgrade. I do not have the two weeks free it would take to reinstall everything after doing a new Win7 install.

We stripped out the compatibility code that was in WB for Vista. This allowed us to reduce code size and improve compatibility.
The market share of Windows Vista is so tiny it isn't worth supporting any longer. It hasn't been out of single digits in a very long time. Each new OS adds a great deal to compatibility testing and Vista has 32 and 64 bit versions which would need testing.

Thanks for the explanation Neil. I guess I'll upgrade at least to 7. Too bad it's not heavily discounted now that 8 is the current OS.

I bought Windowblinds when version 7 was released. How come I can only download version 7.4? Where is 7.9? I have gone to the Stardock store and it shows I can buy Windowblinds for $9.99 but shows only for windows vista/7. I would gladly pay the $9.99 to upgrade to version 8 but it's not showing. So whats the deal?

7.9 is a beta of 8. They release the beta's only to the Object Desktop subscribers, a sort of restricted/controlled release to work out some of the kinks. Version 8 isn't really out there yet. On the bright side, when it is out there for general purchase, it will have had some tweaks made to it.

7.41.1 is the most recent/current release of WB7. 7.9 is the first limited release public Beta of WB8. [there were also quite a few alphas bouncing around internally prior].
The first-access limited Beta release only to OD subscribers is both the advantage of being an OD subscriber and also a 'thankyou' to OD subscribers for subscribing.
Limiting the first release also limits repetitive feedback issues - it's easier to respond to noted bugs from a smaller user base than to receive mutliple reports of the same issue from many...

Ok I see what you guys are saying but what about all the people who paid money for Windowblinds. I only purchased Windowblinds along with skin studio because I don't need all the stuff with OD. How about a thank you to all the people who paid money for the product (in this case windowblinds).
As far as a small group for testing...would it not be better to have a larger group to cover more system configurations and a wider range of possible bugs instead of limiting it to a small group and then being flooded by support issues after it is released? Is that not the whole purpose of beta testing? Just thought I throw that out there as food for thought.

you know on second thought, I brought windowsblinds 7 as a separate software I don't have objectdesktop sub, does that mean I can't take advantage of windowblinds beta download

That is an excellent idea, I second that one.

That is correct, you can not, it is only for Object Desktop subscribers at present.
If you like, I see here that you can upgrade your Windowblinds to an Object Desktop subscription for $34.99 USD
