Community Covid-19 Check-in Post!
Monday, March 23, 2020 by Island Dog | Discussion: Everything Else
This is certainly an interesting time right now. I know many of us around the world are social distancing, self-quarantining, or whatever phrase you are using for it.
So let's take a moment and check-in here and let the community know how you're doing during all this.

Thank you everyone for your kind thoughts and prayers. I know she wouldn't have wanted anyone to make a fuss.

My commute is around 15km. So I actually love these days. Working from home and getting lots of free time.

Yeah, this has to be the worst health crisis since the Spanish flu of 1918 through 1920.... and one has to wonder when it will end when there's talk of recovered victims becoming reinfected. Hopefully that's just residual strands and are non-contagious, etc.
As for we here in Tassie, we're safe and keeping well. There have been new cases of Corona virus in the North-West of the state but that's not near us. I haven't been out of the house in 6 weeks to 8 weeks more because of the Corona virus, but it's something I've had to get used to over the years and it doesn't bother me any. Both Steve and Shaunna are also well and coping okay with this lockdown, though Steve does go out to get our groceries and whatever other items we may need.
The other thing is that Shaunna purchased a second-hand mobility scooter. Although her leg is healing quite nicely, she likely won't be fully mobile for a while yet, and then there's the lymphadema, which at times can cause mobility issues for her. Anyway, it's a good thing to have here for me as well, for when I need to get from A to B and beyond when I'm not all that mobile.
Anyhow people, stay safe and well, okay.

I've kind of been enjoying the "at home" versions of the Late Night talk shows. It's nice in a way to see the "creatures" in their natural habitats. I've also found that I can completely do without the crowd noise. A pleasant surprise, maybe it'll catch on.

We get those damned late night talk shows here in Australia, and to be frank [not Bill, George or Harry] I can't stand them. I mean, 99% of the content doesn't even relate to us, so why do we have to put up with them on our networks?
Yup, given all the so-called reality shows, infomercials and damned advertising, there's pretty near bugger all worth watching on TV. In fact, I don't recall the last time I sat in front of the TV, other than to watch DVDs or Blurays of my own choosing. We even ditched Foxtel because of the constant advertising before, during and after shows, not to mention the repeat after repeat after repeat.... after damned repeat. Nope, we didn't sign up to pay for 20 minutes worth of ads in each one hour time slot.
Orright, that's my bitch and whine for the day.

Hospital is slow due to all of the elective surg cancellations and everyone else afraid to go to the ER when they are sick. We've >3x our ICU capacity but have yet to see a big surge. My state (Minnesota) has managed the pandemic excellently, our state institutions are top-notch, for the most part.
Hopefully, everything continues this way...
Otherwise, besides working I don't go out much - although I never did much anyway. Since I work in healthcare there's a 100% chance that I either get it, or have already gotten it - but that's the deal you take when you work in my line of work, so it is what it is...
Hopefully everyone stays healthy, nice community thread to put up Island Dog ..

Going to the Blood Bank these days means they take your temperature....and it's been over 0 which means I'm still alive...
This time the nurse had a bit of brain fade and forgot to hook up one of the bags...but caught it just in time.... otherwise we'd have been knee-deep in plasma.....mine....

All OK here at the moment. My wife and I are in our early 70's. We only go out when we have to plus our morning walk. We are a bit lucky because in early February we were on the Golden Princess doing a cruise from Melbourne around New Zealand. That finished on the 12th of February. Our last port of call was Auckland. Before we docked the Captain announced that a new crew member had boarded at a previous port and was in quarantine and they had to get special permission for us to disembark. This was approved however when we got of all the port staff were in masks. A bit scary!
My friend was a guard on the ship in US and they have several COVID cases and 1 man died. Crazy

In Norway, we've had a lock down for quite some time now, and are slowly opening up society again. Almost no new daily cases (see graph) and very few are hospitalized.

Masks are compulsory now here in Victoria. We went to the chemist and purchased a box of disposable ones and guess what!
They are made in Wuhan, China!!!
