Community Covid-19 Check-in Post!
Monday, March 23, 2020 by Island Dog | Discussion: Everything Else
This is certainly an interesting time right now. I know many of us around the world are social distancing, self-quarantining, or whatever phrase you are using for it.
So let's take a moment and check-in here and let the community know how you're doing during all this.

Using a facial mask for an hour once in a while, is one thing. Try this outfit for 8-10 hours.... It's not very pleasant.
I hope you all stay safe and well.

Today [Friday] marks 28 days in Victoria with no new infections and no deaths, after a quite restrictive second-wave lockdown. The benefits of a comprehensive restriction of so-called 'freedom'. Short-term pain for long-term gain...

Neighbour of mine has friends in Brazil. One was over here and the flight home was 1 leg for 15 hours and the second leg for 16 hours. They had to wear a mask and a shield for the entire flight.

Well, let's see now... my oldest son, his wife and his oldest daughter all tested positive, but they are fine now. Sorry to say that my 68 year old cousin passed away from it, and now his oldest daughter has it too, but she is doing fine. I just pray the vaccines coming out actually work. I haven't left my house but 6 times since all this started, spent Thanksgiving by myself, but at least my youngest son stopped by and handed me a great plate of food!
Stay safe please everyone!

Hello from Camas, Washington. I am an 86 year old Korea War Vet and live in a senior building. No one here has the virus yet, but we are all in strict lockdown. We must be masked of course, but we can't even visit or be in the hallways unless absolutely necessary. Thank the Goddess for Window blinds. I have about 65 of them, and each day I try to develop a new desktop background to go with them. I now have over 600. It keeps me from getting into the committee that lives in my head, and makes the alone time much shorter. My children live in Southern California and the horror stories that come from there are really scary. I am well (except for what comes with old age) and life hasn't changed that much for me. A road trip or vacation for me is to walk across the street to the park, then take a nap, then walk back, take another nap, fix dinner, sleep after dinner, watch the telly, and then go to bed.......lol. I am glad to still be here as I am the only one left out of my gaggle of friends. Stay well and remember that it is only a journey and you get to make up the story about it. Love to all. Geno

[all except the 'go to bed' bit] .... Weeeeeeeell, at this age; going to bed means, getting undressed and LAUGHING at each others nakedness. Ya see, the problems is; not that I have forgotten "HOW", the problem is; "I DON'T REMEMBER WHY".........................what the hell was that all about, and why did I spend so much time trying to get there...................LOL LOL LOL LOL (yaaaaaaaaaa, I know, to many lol's)

Trying not to think about the mutant strain spreading in my country right now.

I knew it wouldn't be long before the relaxed Covid restrictions were being escalated again. With new clusters in Sydney and nearby surrounds, other states have reintroduced border closures and quarantine measures to people from NSW and overseas visitors/returnees. It makes sense but there's many who are not happy with it because it interrupts their holiday plans.
Something that concerns and perplexes me is why other governments have thoroughly tested and released Phiser's vaccine while ours has delayed the release until mid-March. Sure, we need it to be safe, but why is our testing and scrutiny any better than the UK, or US's?
That's the way it comes across, that we have higher/better standards than elsewhere in the world, and to me that smacks of arrogance and a self-appointed superiority when new clusters have emerged. Australians are not only concerned by this but now at greater risk of contracting Covid-19.

Fair point, starkers, but another to look at it is that the approval for Pfizer's vaccine did happen very fast in both countries. A whole lot faster than normally happens.
There's a possibility - however small - that things have been rushed. Firstly, the vaccine might not work as intended. It might have ugly side effects. It might not work at all.
New Zealand won't be getting any vaccines until March, by which time we should know which one is the most effective and how it's best used.
And the new variant found in the UK throws a curveball - what if none of the vaccines, which work on the other varients of Covid19, don't work on that one, which becomes the dominant strain affecting the most people?

I got the shot Friday afternoon and other than a little soreness in the injection area I feel just fine. Get the damn shot as soon as you can.

Another thing that's pissing me off are the selfish, self-privileged, self-entitled wankers in Sydney who are ignoring the lockdown rules, social distancing and guidelines to go surfing, etc. It's people like these who are spreading the Covid-19 virus and causing greater stress and even death to communities already decimated by the disease.
For mine, these arrogant, self-centered arse-wipes should be fined heavily AND jailed... but before that, I'd confiscate and burn their effing surfboards before their eyes.

It's the same here in the US, nothing but a bunch of IDIOTS!

That's the problem in most countries, people behaving recklessly and endangering others. They don't care about anybody but themselves and the authorities need to take a much tougher stand... like some serious jail time and the confiscation of their prized possessions.
Another thing I'd do is knacker them [castrate] to help prevent the proliferation of stupidity.

Masks are compulsory now here in Victoria. We went to the chemist and purchased a box of disposable ones and guess what!
They are made in Wuhan, China!!!
Great....now I'll have to check mine.....nope....Shandong Province.
Used one for the first time yesterday....at the Blood bank....looks like it's gonna be a 'fashion accessory' for quite a while...
