WC Community Question: Desktop, Laptop, or Both?
Friday, November 20, 2020 by Island Dog | Discussion: Personal Computing
Happy Friday! I was sitting here trying to straighten up my work area before the work week ends and thought maybe that should be the part of the topic for this week's question.
I have my main desktop PC which I mostly use for gaming and design work. My Dell XPS laptop is really just dedicated for work stuff, and I also have an iPad on my desk for casual web browsing and keeping up with emails.
We have a desktop workstation thread here on the forums, and we've seen some really cool setups there, but we wanted to ask how do you have your PC and work area setup.
Do you have a desktop PC, or are you more mobile with a laptop? Or do you go for it all and have several?

I have a custom built desktop with dual BenQ 2560x1440 monitors, a fantastic ASUS laptop and an ASUS tablet, both really fast. I also have an Intel NUC set up in the living room for company to use, it also has a BenQ 2560x1440 monitor.

I have a PC in my office, the workshop and the guest room. I have a tablet I keep in the bathroom and a laptop. I only use the laptop while traveling. I just can't understand how a person can go laptop only, I need screen space.

My computing isn't 'portable' although there are 5 laptops in the house. A 50lb computer case...before anything is put in...isn't exactly portable. If I'm not on this....I'm on a Samsung tablet in front of the telly....still troll-hunting...

My Gear: ASUS GR8 II (Desktop), RAZR 2019 (Phone), iPad 8th Gen. & A Toshiba Satellite Laptop (not in Pic.)
-Reason why there are 2 ASUS in the Picture is because the one to the Left is Vampothikas
And Yes, I would say I need all of them in my creative lifestyle and pursuit of inspiration...

I have an ancient desktop and an old laptop, both of which are gathering dust in my home office. The one I use is a one year old laptop that I purchased with the intent of taking with me in my post-retirement traveling. Said traveling has been curtailed by 2020, so it's sitting immobile on my table in the family room, where I use it with an external monitor and keyboard.

I have two desktops, and 1 17" HP laptop, plus my Macbook Pro 13".

I rarely use my lab top. Mainly desktop. As far as bang for my buck I have to disagree. Lab tops definitely give better bang for my buck. Overclocking works about 20 percent(overrated). Turbo boost is better. You can get for both. The desktop can be upgraded easier, and is faster. I compared the desktop is worse for your buck. Lab tops are easily portable.

I actually have 8 desktops (2 are triple monitor) setup in my office. Plus an iPad pro 12" 2020. A Mac Mini as well.

Just a desktop . Seems like they're the best bang for the buck and I can keep them going longer, and I don't really need the mobility.
