Bringing a Classic Mac Theme to Windows 11

It may look like a Mac, but it's 100% Windows

Tuesday, January 17, 2023 by BradSams | Discussion: WindowBlinds News

Late last year, we brought a new theme to WindowBlinds 11 that we call Windows Classic. For fans of older versions of Windows, this is a great way to experience some of the late 90s style while retaining the modern features that Windows 11 provides.

In the same vein, we have created another new retro style that crosses the OS waters to MacOS. In our latest theme for WindowBlinds, Mac Classic brings back a different sort of retro feel that lets you experience the unique Mac style from yesterday on your Windows 10 or 11 desktop today.

With a flatter design style and monochromatic elements, Mac Classic will certainly have its fans - but we know it’s not for everyone.  That’s the beauty of WindowBlinds, though: there are thousands of themes that you can apply to your desktop to make it a truly personalized experience.

To grab this specific theme, you can download and install the latest version of WindowBlinds 11. If you already have WindowBlinds installed, you can directly download the skin here.

Don’t forget: you can also create your own themes as well with our SkinStudio that comes bundled with every copy of WindowBlinds 11. You can also modify any existing theme from within the WindowBlinds app, too.

As we continue to look for new themes to build for WindowBlinds 11, make sure to let us know in the comments what you would like to see land in our next release. And if you haven't tried WindowBlinds 11 yet, you can download a free trial here.

i just discovered windowblinds 11 when i was looking for a win7 theme for win11.

I havent found this theme yet so i would buy windowblinds immedeatly if it would offer the option to tranform win 11 exactly to win7 with full aero and so on. I would buy start11 too.

so i would suggest this for the next skin release

Have you tried looking for it here: https://www.wincustomize.com/explore/windowblinds/search/windows+7. Below is what I can get from WB11  vs what Win 7 actual look. I am on Windows 10 on WB11 with "7 for 10" by 20f3.

Thank you,

Hi King990,

I have several Windows 7 themes in my library of Screenshots. The programs and items needed to create the themes are listed with each Screenshot. Also, I have many Mac themed screenshots for those who are interested. The programs and items needed to create those themes are listed as well.

@Basj I currently have win7 installed, but I want to upgrade to 11 soon, so I can't test
it yet. a friend has already switched and has the same problem as me, he would also
like to keep the win7 interface. he told me today that he test windowblinds11 currently
and has applied the 7 to 10 theme as it seems to be the only one that comes close to the
original. But he has problems with win11 when displaying the explorer and too much
blur with the aero effect. Apparently the skin is only optimized for win10...

@winstar4

can you please give me a link to your win7 conversation for win 11? i am having trouble
finding this. But please a version that is as exact as possible like the standard
original win7 with aero.

@King990 Here is a link to my library list. Just scroll through until you find the ones you like. I do have one named "Windows 7 Aero". However, it is highly customized. I don't think that is what you are looking for. I haven't customized in years, so my old customizations probably won't work for you. I will look to see if I can find anything for you. Good luck.

Thank you both for the links to the topics, but as winstar has guessed,
these are not my cup of tea. I would like to use a win7 ''out of the
box'', just the normal standard version without any changes.
From my point of view, the best basis for window blinds
would be to have a professionally created version of
each of the much-used Windows versions, such as xp,
7, 8.1 and 10.

So instead of bringing modern designs that fully support darkmode we now have a myriad dead OSs mimiks that only look right in light mode? WB has no value to me anymore if I have to look at grey, light blue and white all over.

Note: If this again gets deleted like the last time I am gone. If critics on that release-politics (boring retro all over) is not allowed, this is not my place to stay.

P.S: I wouldn't have a problem with the retro trend if there was only one built-in theme supporting darkmode. But there isn't.

Personally, I think this theme looks ridiculous.  I'd much rather have a MacOS 9 theme than this.

Lately, I've been using the Sabertooth theme extracted from Windowblinds 7.  It gets the Apple feel without having the actual Apple logo as the start menu icon.

Totally agree with you c242. I got into skinning and then Themes to bring my desktop to life, make it look out of this world. I know lots like all the old stuff and looks, but as i was a user of those OSs, for me, its a case of "Been There Done That" and i want to move forward and not back. I spend too long each day at my PC, and that was 100% why i got into WBs and Themes, so i would not have to look at the MS Gui. Some users really go nuts over these older looking retro skins, but not me or you c242. Our comments are relevant, as there has to be Balance in all things. I have more or less move to The dark Side now, i have removed my WB Win 10 SSD from my set up, as for me, it had too many issues for Win 11 and WB11 to work out of the box if i updated it. I actually prefer the competitors Start Program and Themes. Some may say, why are you still here, well, i love to customize my Desktop, and enjoy the screenshots topics , and its always good to share ideas about how we do things.

I rather enjoy the nostalgia of the GUIs of the older OSs, with the advantages of the newer ones...if only MS didn't feel the need to hard code, the GUIs could look sooo much better. Never liked stark B&W skins, but I suppose some do. Plenty of room for all.

Reason I started skinning...back in the Dos vintage, before 'Windows'.

There were entire Shells available [heaps of them] to replace Explorer.exe and most enabled free modding however you wanted.

Currently there are very few options....as MS gets more brutal with its control...but it's important to remember those 'themes' are violations of the MS EULA ... though too insignificant for MS to bother with. However that doesn't make it 'legal'.

I always found [mostly] the best way to experience an OS GUI was actually natively...hence I still use Microsoft's 'Ultimate' GUI.

Food for thought....they never had the balls to refer to any OS after 7 as 'Ultimate'....

I have myself experienced those older OSs, as per my reply.  That was ok for a while Jafo, but soon got bored stupid with those looks and sought out ways to change it.

Right now i would say there are two options for those who love to customise. WB and Start 11, and StartAllBack and Themes. I found Themes and SIB, more useable on Win 11 from its launch, without issues.

Looks like According to Jafo, I am an Illegal Violator to MS and its OSs.

It is well documented you love Win 7 Jafo, but i doubt your "Ultimate" suggestion about naming later windows, would even hold water, more a passion of yours, than a statement of any kind of truth!

Oh yes, everyone remembers Windows 8 Ultimate, and Windows 8.1 Ultimate, and Windows 10 Ultimate, and don't forget Windows 11 Ultimate.

No, mate... 7 was the last.  It's not a privately owned "truth".

And yes, Anyone using any form of Uxtheme.exe patcher is doing so thanks to it having been reverse-engineered, which is against the MS Eula.

Perhaps it's time for people to read what they 'click' yes to....

Yes Ultimate, Ultimate Jafo. Win 7 is way behind me, were it should be, we all know how much you love this much much older OS mate, i used it myself for a while, and it was ok i guess, then i moved with the times and updated, then that OS, was updated, again i moved on, and again, another new OS, and again i moved on to a new OS. Something i will do again when Win 12 comes along.

Naroon The Violator Of MS Eula.

I should apply for a job at "What We Do In The Shadows" bud.    If i did, maybe i would think more highly about an OS which is older than the Hills   .

Some peeps actually read those terms, me included, but as an Individual, i choose what i do next, in all things. I have told you before, I Walk My Own Path, based on my skillset and understanding of Multiple Windows editions, but would never stick with an out of date OS, nor would i like to make my current , up to date OS, look like an older one, for old times sake .

Your Devotion To Win 7 Jafo, is starting to sound a little creepy, but as its Ultimate, that's ok .
