Update: yum makes life easier. To install a package, for exaple, The GIMP, you would go ito terminal and type 'yum install gimp' or for Firefox, 'yum install firefox' etc. No more web searching!!

The links do not function because when I tried to copy the HTML code from Publisher it would not show in the proper area and would flood the whole site's page. Now it is just screenshots from Publisher put together.

I wouldn't recommend Fedora for first time users. Mandrake or Linspire would be a better choice.

Personally don't like Mandrake that much, and Linspire costs money, got bad reviews from PC World etc. etc.

Well Fedora is more for power users than new users. Linspire is still a bit cheaper than Windows. SuSE seems to be my choice right now.

With minimal previous experience with Linux I found Fedora to be very easy to set up and use. There are a few "linux-centric" things to think about (like "Do I use KDE or Gnome GUI?"). Linspire and SuSE were probably a tad easier to set-up because most of the setup was performed automatically, but they essentially end up the same.
For an outright noob (neither a Windows power-user nor a previous linux-user) I'd certainly recommend getting one of the LiveCD's: Boots from a CD into Linux, doesn't touch your hard-drive(s) and generally contain plenty of linux software to try out- perfect for the Linux curious individual who just wants to see what it does.

Go over and complain to MS Publisher. I just took the code from the web preview.

Hmm a bitmap? 500k bitmap?? I would recommand using high quality jpg or even better, PNG. the filesize would be much smaller.

MS Publisher may have tried to use CSS (much like Dreamweaver does by default) I know this screws me up when I build an article and then attempt to paste it into JU. I've actually disabled the CSS tags in Dreamweaver now.
Moral of the story: Don't use WYSIWYG Editors unless you know how to do it all by hand anyway. That way if you get a glitch, you can find it and fix it fairly easily

I'm having problems with Suse with my router. For some odd reason, it doesn't want to connect to the net or even to my network. Grrrr! Unless this network card is too old. I'm using a old IBM machine that has a PII 330mhz processor for the moment. Hopefully soon I'll be able to get this thing upgraded. I need like $130 for a processor for my new Motherboard, then I can put my old board and parts in the server. Hmmm

I've had a similar problem with SuSE- it works great for everything but the networking. Never was able to get it to recognize my WiFi & eventually gave up on it.
On a positive note: SuSE was the only distro I've found that came with WINE working immediately right after install. Was able to have Photoshop running under Linux in under 10 minutes. Still haven't gotten it to work under my beloved Fedora Core 3.
(BTW: Big THANKS! to whoever fixed the HTML problem, Jafo, Meowy, whomever...)
