This is sweet. Not sure if this suggestions are possible but here goes:
1. Is there anyway to make double-click "edit" and single-click "change color"?
2. Would also be cool if the edit mode was closed on loss of focus.

1) Note that I can think of.
2) The only problem is how would you give it focus? Clicking it would change it's color

I think you can put a code in click event, if it gets two clicks in less than half a second, then it runs edit, if just one, change color?
Just use a variable, and loop script that resets variable in 0.5 second when it's enabled.
