very nice... except that clicking the black area doesn't load gmail in my browser but opens the Mozilla homepage!

I'll have an update out soon that will (I hope) fix that Mozilla bug and also it will save the last position of the widget when you load it.

Glad you like it

Here's a weird one... clicking in the "black bit" to load the Gmail page brings up 'http://%1%20http://gmail.google.com" instead...

Does the same regardless whether I have Firefox, IE, Opera, or Maxthon set as the system default browser.

Its working fine in Opera/Firefox here.
The ways its setup is to run "browser.exe http://gmail.google.com/" but I've done it the long (and pointless) way around. When I update it'll be much simpler, I just need to get the searching in place and then I'll upload it.

You state the search doesn't work unless you're logged into Gmail. Would this mean you have to have gmail open in a web browser, or is it in regard to the password storage? I know there is a tweak you can make with firefox that will allow firefox to remeber the password for you indefinately. Any change that would allow the widget to then remember permenantly also? Or does the search box not interface to the web browser?

You don't have to have Gmail open in a web browser for the search to work. What the widget does it pass a URL to your browser, and your browser will open a page up which shows the results of the search.

Your Gmail username and password need to be stored in a cookie so that the above URL gets past the normal Gmail login page, you can only do that if you've already logged in, or you've ticked the box telling Gmail to remember your password for 2 weeks.

I hope that makes sense.

oh ok. So if your using firefox and you tweak it so it will permenantly remember your gmail password, this is a super rocking widget!

Problem I have, is that the input fields have somehow become null. It tries to log on with nothing for password and login. It won't prompt me again for them, so I can't fix the problem. Is there a config file that I can delete/edit to fixd this? thomas@tomsoft.net

You'll need to delete a registry key, or enter the username etc directly into the registry.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Stardock\DesktopX\Widget\Woodbridge\Gmail\

The next version (for DX3) will have a preference dialog box so this won't be a problem, it might have some more skins for it too

Any chance you can make one of these for regular email accounts? There aren't really any good ones out there for that. (PLEASE!!!!)

Yep, I've got planned a normal POP3/IMAP version of this widget. I'm just tweaking this Gmail version and adding skins first, I plan to release this and the POP3/IMAP version the moment DX3 is out. Of course there will be no search function for normal emails.
