Hey! I like it! LOL
I *don't* like that it sucks up between 25 - 32 Megs of RAM. What's up with that?
Chunks the whole system up something awful.
Really cool idea, though. Like the animations, too.

Martin, can you tell us what animation software was used for the images? The anti-aliasing is outstanding, making the movement very smooth even at 20fps. Ulead GIF Animator certainly can't do it.

andyberry: considering that it requires an instance of Internet Explorer to get the data which is about 15-20MB on it's own I think the object itself is very compact memory wise.

Will: Not sure - mormegil did the animations.

Martin, tried your animated weather widget and I have one question to ask and I think it is a very important qustion and it is - WHY DOES IT TRY TO CONNECT TO WWW.MICROSOFT.COM?
As far as I know microsoft don't do weather. I find this very strange and concerning. Just as well I run Sygate Firewall as it gave me all the information as to what your widget was doing, ie- trying to access remote port 80 to a specific IP address, being microsoft. the only thing I can think of is that you have built into it some sort of SPYWARE. I would like some sort of explanation on this.

so martin, is it or is it not possible to have multiple weather forecasters to be running different locations?

it's using 100% of my RAM. prior to loading the object i'm at about 300MB RAM utilization and it maxes out my 1GB of RAM and stays maxed. when loading it maxes my 2.4GHz P4 for the first 5min and then goas back to normal. this objet is causing some kind of issue. i've e-mailed you screen shots of my task manager.

alpha-omega, I have no idea. Maybe the MICROSOFT web control checks it is the latest version or something? Spyware - come on - get real - if I built spyware into it what the hell would Microsoft have to do with it!!!!

Wommers - not currently - it's on my enormous "to-do" list

Miss Mannlister. What version of DesktopX are you using? Is it the latest 2.2 beta from Object Desktop?

oh, and another thing alpha-omega, I REALLY don't appreciate my integrity being questioned like that. Check out the Stardock Certification.

Civilized queries, fair enough, but wild accusations ... https://www.joeuser.com/index.asp?AID=23602

It wasn't wild accusations at all, come on, all I said was that your widget was trying to comunicate with www.microsoft.com and believe me if anybody saw this they would have to question it as well. As far as I am concerned it was a civilized question which for some reason YOU can't answer. I have had no problems at all with anything else you have made and I must say they are excellent, but this just concerned me. Anyhow enough about all of that. Sorry if I offended you.

i updated to the latest DX beta and i no longer have the RAM issue. everything seems to work now.

unfortunately, the latest beta makes all of my objects snap to the screen edges and corners regardless of my object settings. argh.

alpha-omega,

I think it was the "the only thing I can think of is that you have built into it some sort of SPYWARE. " that did it. And I did give the only explanation that I could think of.

If your comment wasn't interpreted as intended then apologies.

Miss Mannlinger,

If you drag your object and it smaps to the edge just use the cursor keys to move it slightly off the edge or use the Object Navigator to adjust the x,y settings.

I thought there was an option to remove snapping to edges but I can't see it. I'll ask if we can make this an option that is on by default but can be switched off.

fixed now it seems, by updating .... don't like what happened though i must admit ... seems there must have been a big change in the builds of dx2.2 beta from the one i had,

... maybe it would be better to advise that users need the latest beta for these things before using them, either that, or make then so that all can use them ...

Hi Xupi54 ....

i don't know if u need winXP for this to run, but u definitely need the latest DX Beta, which is 2.19m for it to run properly.

The widgets should run when u double click them because with dx2 installed on ur system, they should be recognised ...

Updated to fix a problem with the Sunny image which isn't animated.

Needless to say, being in England I didn't notice this problem!
