Very nice.
I hope you don't mind me asking (again), was this completely After Effects?
I'm trying to migrate to originals and since you are always ahead of everyone else, who better to ask.

The movement was done using 3ds max and was originally white. I used after effects to soften the edges and apply the fire color. I did all my early work in after effects, it a powerful tool and its a great way to move into originals. I can't say enough how Andrew Kramer's tutorials showed me how to use and all the possibilities of after effects.

Could someone tell me why some deskscapes/dreams (like this one, which is really great by the way! ) will only load as an Active movie window instead of as a background?? I'm running Windows Vista Basic.

It's hard to say, have you tried uninstalling deskscapes, rebooting, then reinstalling? Do you have the latest video card drivers? If you can play the video in a player, but not in deskscapes, then it sounds like a deskscapes issue and you should contact Stardock support.
