Ohh, love this-! What a chubby lil' cutie! last Winter was especially cold and hard in my area, so one of these rascals stowed away a hoard of pinecones in my father's tool shed and nested in there all Winter from the snow. naturally he freaked out when he discovered their pine cone nest in the corner of the shed stocked up with corn kernels and acorns, but no harm was done. His shed is a royal toxic mess to begin with..lol.
So, this Summer, I purchased one of those wood squirrel nesting boxes you hang on trees-- so they have at least something to keep them dry when we get the killer snows again. Squirrels depend on hollows in trees for living areas, while chipmunks will burrow deep underground to hibernate. I'm one of those ecoterrorist whacko hippie ladies you see scattering peanuts for these critters. I'll probably get arrested when I'm old for feeding the pigeons..lol
