MPEG is much less demanding on the CPU.

everything I've tried looks terrible
in all honesty, I don't want to make any more until microsoft adds more format support (or deskscapes for that matter)
mp4 maybe?

mp4 maybe?
I hear ya, would be nice to expand the supported formats.
mp4 might be worth a try I.. I don't know of any decent codec's or I'd gladly send one your way.
Maybe the folks at Stardock have a good one? Their dreams seem to be MPEG and arent very demanding...

WWW Link
"Error starting to transcode: the selected file might not have an appropriate format. please check the file again"
does it not do avi > mpg, or wmv > mpg?
if I had mpg's to make into mpg's this wouldn't be a problem

it scales the videos down and has slight pixelation.. also... it only works in xp, no go in vista for some strange reason...
these files have an insanely seamless loop and are around 2-10mb in size when encoded as mp4...
I can only hope sp1 or a future update adds this format compatibility...
