- Clock is alpha transparent with light and dark areas (the blue is merely a sample background)
- The tick marks are also transparent
- The edging is also transparent
- It was drawn at 256x256, and looks great all the way down to 48px square
- The typeface is Senator Tall
Why did I draw it in Illustrator CS2 instead of Photoshop CS2/3? Because Illustrator is more flexible than Photoshop. For instance, the blurred and distorted shine lines are still entirely vector; I can resize or reshape them at any time. I can even change the radial blur percentage without losing quality because it's not fixed-resolution pixels, it's vector paths.
The variable transparency on the tick circles is a simple black-white radial gradient with an opacity mask, which makes the black disappear, thus they contain white to transparent gradients (it looks like there's still black because of the way the transparency interacts with the blue BG).
