I have uploaded 1 Vista Gadget created with DesktopX to the Live Gallery last year for experiment. You may look at my Shame (just read a comments): WWW Link
The results:
1. Any Vista Gadgets created with DX doesn't work stable.
2. The XGFRuntimeServer doesn't closes when you exit the sidebar (or close the gadget) that much angers people.
3. As well DX sidebar gadgets requires a lot of system resources like CPU and Memory.
On these reasons I must tell you that DX isn't ready to export gadgets for Vista and you need learn Microsoft Gadgets SDK if you want make them for commercial usage.
I have stopped all projects for Vista Sidebar and returned back to a typical DesktopX gadgets/widgets...
