The only thing that I can think of was that perhaps you didn't have the Dungeon font installed originally. Could that be the case?

Thanks for the reply Xymantix. My dungeon font has been installed for ages. I can't figure out why it works now and not originally, however... I used JV16 Power Tools registry cleaner the other day. It always says that the Xymantix entries are unneeded and I delete them, which causes Sysmetrix to be installed again the next time I try to start it. That may have been what fixed the problem, although I don't see what would have changed.

this is great.. bit convenient actually that i use 1280x1024 and its a bit short.. fits PERFECTLY under my desktopX bar at the top 
only thing i could complain about is the fact that for some reason my cpu usage stays at 100%
