Everything I ever made was done in 5.5. I tried 6.0 when it came out, couldn't get used to the new toolbar, and it slowed down my production time. So I just went back to 5.5.
found no use for "layer styles" either, prefer to do it myself. For what I do, 5.5 is just fine, and I'm not a "version snob".
